"Радісно празнуємо у світлому дні твоєї святої

смерти, Ольго богомудра, засилаючи молебну пісню

до Христа, що вінчав тебе вінцем нетлінним." (Канон святої Ольги)

На небосхилі святих Христової Церкви, наче зорі,

сяють різні святі українського народу. Поміж ними

особливим світлом святости ясніє княгиня Ольга,

пам'ять якої відзначаємо 11 липня. "Повість временних

літ" величає Ольгу такими словами: "Вона предтеча

християнської землі, як рання зірниця перед сонцем

і як зоря перед світанком... Вона перша від Руси

ввійшла в царство небесне, тому руські сини хвалять

її як начальницю, бо й по смерті вона молить Бога за

Русь".

Свята Ольга це перша християнка на

великокняжому престолі Києва, перша просвітителька

й учителька християнської віри в Русі-Україні.

Її хрещення створило широкий шлях до християнізації

нашої держави.

Свята Ольга належить до найсвітліших жіночих

постатей нашої княжої держави. Вона вирізнялася

світлим характером, сильною волею та надзвичайною

мудрістю в управлінні нашою державою. Це жінка з

великим державницьким умом. Наш літопис називає

її "наймудрішою серед усіх людей".

Після смерти свого чоловіка, князя Ігоря († 945),

Ольга довгі роки сильною рукою правила великою

державою від імени свого малолітнього (prod. na stor. 3)

July the Month of Ukrainian Saints

On July 10th we celebrate one of the founders of

monasticism in ancient Rus-Ukraine, St. Anthony

Pechersky, laying the foundation of the Kyiv-Pechersky

Monastery-monastery of the Caves. St. Anthony and St.

Theodosius adopted the monastic rule of Ss. Basil the Great

and Theodore Studite and adapted it to the circumstances of

our people. In Ukraine, the monasteries were never distant

from the cities and the people. Many of our monasteries

have miraculous icons and became sites for pilgrimage.

The nobles and average lay people could visit the local

monastery to seek spiritual advice from the monks.

On July 11th we celebrate St. Olha-Princess of Kyiv,

grandmother of St. Volodymyr the Great-Baptiser of

Rus-Ukraine. The Tale of Bygone Days extols her in these

words; ‘She is the forerunner of the Christian land, as the

morning star before the sun, and as the star before the

dawn…She was the first to leave the land of Rus to enter

the kingdom of heaven; for this reason, the sons of Rus

praise her as their Queen, for even after death she prays to

God for the land of Rus.’ St. Olha is the first Christian

ruler to occupy the throne of Kyiv, the first enlightener and

teacher of the Christian faith in Rus-Ukraine. Her baptism

opened the road for the Christianization of our people

which would be undertaken by her grandson, Prince

Volodymyr the Great.

On July 15th we celebrate the Baptiser of Rus-Ukraine

Наталія Полонська-Василенко, — не присвятив наш

літопис стільки уваги, як Ользі, що протягом двох

десятиріч виступає в авреолі мудрости й жіночого

чару" (Історія України, Τ. І, с. 101).

Велика мудрість святої Ольги виявилася і в тому,

що вона прийняла християнську віру і саме цим сильно

піднесла авторитет свій і своєї держави в очах Візантії

та християнських володарів Західної Європи. "Княгиня

Ольга, — вважає історик Микола Чубатий, — стоїть

дійсно на перехресті релігійної та культурної історії

Руси-України" (Історія Християнства на Руси-Україні,

Τ. І, с. 186).

Наша Церква у богослуженні празника величає

Ольгу такими похвалами: "Наче сонце, засяяла нам твоя

преславна пам'ять, Ольго богомудра, мати князів

руських, Христова мізинице... Ти наша велич і похвала,

Ольго богомудра, бо тобою ми визволилися від

ідольського обману... Сильна наче львиця, одягнена

силою Святого Духа... Чиста наставнице закону й

учителько Христової віри, прийми похвалу від

недостойних рабів, і молися до Бога за нас, що свято

празнуємо твою пам'ять".

Про християнське життя Ольги свідчить її остання

воля, де вона просить, щоб її поховали за

християнським звичаєм і на гробі не справляли

поганської тризни. Померла вона у глибокій старості

969 року, маючи близько 75 років.

Постать святої Ольги, як володарки, кількома

словами влучно окреслює історик Наталія Полонська

-Василенко. "Підсумовуючи відомості про Ольгу, —

каже вона, — треба визнати, що її постать та правління

заслуговують на найбільшу увагу". Хрещення Ольги,

яке залишилося її приватною справою, дало підстави

називати її "світанком перед сонцем", а сучасникам

її внука Володимира казати, що вона була

"наймудрішою серед чоловіків" (Цит твір., с. 105).

a pagan; Volodymyr was baptized and became known for

his great faith which was expressed in various charitable

works of mercy. He accepted the Christian faith in its

Byzantine form of worship, which became the spiritual

-moral fiber of our nation, becoming the basis of

our culture, customs, and morality. Most of our national

customs and traditions evolve around the church. Our

Christian faith and it’s uniquely Byzantine-Ukrainian

expression provided great spiritual consolation for our

people during centuries of foreign occupation, to the

imposition of godless Communism that took away their

moral fiber, to the new god of consumerism and post-Soviet

corruption.

On July 24th we celebrate the Passion-Bearers Ss. Boris

and Hlib. They were sons of St. Volodymyr, after his

death the Princedom of Kyiv was divided among his sons,

but Sviatopolk murdered his brothers Boris and Hlib to

take their portions of the Princedom for himself. Boris and

Hlib were informed of their brother’s evil intentions. They

were deeply committed to their Christian faith, and

preferred to love their enemy, and refused to raise a hand

against Sviatopolk. They imitated Christ, who knowingly

and willfully went to His Passion for our salvation.

ввесь український нарід, як до могутньої Заступниці

в небі. Тож, свята княгине, опікуйся нами! Будь нам

матір'ю в небі, як була Ти матір'ю українському

наро­дові на землі. Випроси нам, свята наша кня­гине,

ласку, щоб у всіх українських родинах і цілому народі

славилось ім'я Боже й захову­вався Божий закон. Нехай

за Твоїми мо­литвами, свята наша Заступнице,

українська молодь виростає в скромності, люди

середніх літ нехай служать побожністю й

працьови­тістю, а старці нехай святим прикладом і

до­брою порадою ведуть український нарід до щораз

вищої святости, а через те і до вищого дочасного
