O Idiomas não são rígidos como as ciências
exatas;
O Normalmente existem várias maneiras de
se expressar uma ideia.
O As formas do inglês aqui empregadas não
são as únicas possíveis, são apenas as
mais comuns e provavelmente as mais
usadas por falantes nativos.
To be significando “ter” O Em Português, o verbo ter é largamente usado,
aparecendo em expressões do nosso cotidiano,
assumindo um papel idiomático.
O O verbo to have seria seu correspondente em
inglês, com um uso mais restrito, não
aparecendo muito em formas idiomáticas.
O O verbo to be, que originariamente significa ser
e estar em português, por outro lado, cobre em
inglês uma grande área de significado,
aparecendo em muitas expressões do dia a dia,
de forma semelhante ao verbo ter do português.

Exemplos:
O Quantos anos você tem? – How old are you?
O Você tem certeza? – Are you sure?
O Você tem razão. – You are right.
O Não tenho medo de cachorro. – I’m not afraid

“Estar de ...” e “estar com ...”
O A combinação do verbo estar com
as preposições de e com é muito
comum em português, sendo que os
significados que essas combinações
representam podem assumir
diferentes formas em inglês.
“Estar de ...” e “estar com ...”
O Exemplos: O Estou com frio / ... fome / ... medo – I’m cold /
... hungry /... afraid.
O Estou com pressa – I’m in a hurry.
O Estou com dor de cabeça – I have a headache.
O Está com defeito – It’s out of order.
O Ela está com 15 anos – She is 15 years old.
O Estou de férias – I’m on vacation.
“Estar de ...” e “estar com ...”
O Exemplos: O Estou de folga – It’s my day off.
O Estou de serviço – I’m on duty.
O Estou de castigo – I’m grounded.
O Estou de saída – I’m leaving.
O Estou só de passagem – I was just passing by.

É importante identificar em primeiro
lugar os elementos essenciais da oração,
ou seja, sujeito, verbo e complemento.
Verb to be – simple present
O Na sua flexão, o verbo possui apenas três formas que são:
O “am” – usado somente para o pronome “I”;
O “are” para “you”, “we” e “they”; e
O “is”que se usa com os pronomes “he” , “she” e it :
O he corresponde ao masculino,
O she ao feminino e
O it é empregado quando se faz referência a coisas ou animais.

O Para fazer uma pergunta deve ser
observada a posição do verbo.
O Com o verbo TO BE basta inverter a
posição. O verbo passa para o início da
frase e o pronome vem logo a seguir.
O Para negar apenas se usa a negação

O Observe que na língua inglesa não existem conjugações.
O Em vez delas, utilizam-se verbos auxiliares.
O No caso do Simple Present eles são do e does. Does é utilizado somente com a terceira pessoa do singular. Do, com todas as outras.

O Os verbos auxiliares do e does são utilizados para compor as formas interrogativa e negativa.
O Na forma interrogativa, eles ocupam a posição anterior ao sujeito.
O Na forma negativa, ele são acrescidos de not e podem sofrer contração (don’t / doesn’t).

O os verbos auxiliares do e does não são utilizados na forma afi rmativa e que o verbo na terceira pessoa do singular (he, she, it) é acrescido de “s”, exceto nos seguintes casos:
a) Verbos terminados em terminados em “s”; “ss”, “sh”, “ch”, “x”, “o” e “z”: “ES”. Ex.: go -> goes teach -> teaches finish -> finishes
b) Verbos terminados em consoante + “y”: substitui-se o “y” por “I” e acrescenta-se “ES”. Ex.: study -> studies carry -> carries
