Desejo a você uma boa leitura e uma inesquecível experiência visual, see you in the future!

Arquitetura

INTERstELLA 5555: O ANIME DE DAFT PUNK

Vinicius Gouveia

Inicialmente, foram lançados “One More Time”, “Aerodynamic”, “Digital Love” e “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.

Page 23: BRAINSTORM 4

23

Page 24: BRAINSTORM 4

24

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem encanta pela história criativa, visual bem trabalhado e uma trilha sonora marcante, merecendo a alcunha de “the animated House Musical”.

A tecnologia assusta.

HIGH TECH, LOW LIFEfeelingsDanilo Candido

HIGH TECH, LOW LIFEfeelings

Page 41: BRAINSTORM 4

41

we are therobots

Straight from the year 3000, the new Brainstorm comes inspired by the 60’s, where the ones who were lucky to walk through Paris could see the futuristic creations of Pacco Rabanneand, Andre Courreges, who we’ve deconstructed in our work in the fashion’s text with Irisvan Herpen. A great inspiration for this edition is the French duo Daft Punk, who brings a retro futurism to the world of electronic music, as well as the German music of the group Kraftwerk. The relationship is future-past dealt more directly with a film analysis of the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in our column of Cinema, as well as a literary analysis of the short story Minority Report. We’ve entered into the concept art of the artist Billy Nunez through the architectural aspects of the pop-Archigram. The future clashes directly with the past in our 1961 editorial that told the story of a girl living in the year 3000 that back in time, having to deal with the changes of fashion, adapting and adapting the world to her life. I wish you have good read and an unforgettable visual experience, see you in the future!

In a short time in a galaxy far, far away... I think the society will reach the pinnacle of technology, with millions more gadgets connected than the first, the absence of archaic objects and the presence of androids. Today, who has the best visual representation of this future is the American illustrator Billy Nunez, also known as Biz20.The artist’s series is pure cybernetics, full of mechanical parts underneath the skin of his characters. As is known, robots with the appearance human are called androids. Billy Nunez made his work using the concept or the scene, aiming its use in movies and video games, among others… The theme of science fiction is the most required.Future Face is the name of the series, which shows many women’s faces removed with fully mechanical interior exposed. This exposure can mean the coldness of humanity; the human interior is becoming “cold” as the machines. There is another meaning, the presence of artificiality about the excessive abuse of plastics surgeries. You must be the best to create these illustrations, because this is a job very demanding, and it really takes time. There is no such history that the process is finished overnight. It takes training, coaching and training. And it is essential to have knowledge about digital painting.Billy demonstrates the greatest talent for concept art.”His” women can be beautiful the way they are, with the “mechanical parts” visible. Each female android’s face shows a different expression, each level explains how there is emotion “nude”. For example, the woman furious provides greater visibility of its interios, certainly as a symbol of their anger.

pg. 10Archigram - New paradigms in architecture with a pop culture flavor.by Laércio Wolpert

The Archigram was formed by a group of English architects who had the intention of proposing new architectural concepts that met the revolutions in consumer society of that time. Names like Peter Cook and Ron Heron joined the movement. With the publication of a magazine, with the same name, the disclosure of the group aimed: expound the standards of architecture in terms of creation, production and representation. The magazine composed a universe which referred to the comic books as was inspired in the world of television and advertising, made through assemblies, which gave a character quite pop to their issues. The purpose was popularize the architecture as a subject that could be enjoyed and discussed by laymen. And not as something directed only to the restricted academic movement. Many of the projects from Archigram were not aimed at its implementation, even because of their utopian character. In reality, they were presented as a critical and subversive architecture, which contrasted with the pre-established concepts. The new standards of economy, transportation, technology, robotics, telecommunications, mainly technology focused on the newly inaugurated space age, in the second half of the 60th century, served as a backdrop for the proposed paradigms. The highlight of the group occurred with the Living City exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, in 1963 and the project was: Walking City (city mobile) by Ron Henron. In this project, in a charming way, was demonstrated a world dominated by the machine age in which people would live in a nomadic environments disposable amid inflatable structures computerized, that would serve to a completely devoted to consumption society. A great city moves, in a structure that resembles a beetle with his paws, where your arms would be the connection with land cities, where they met the general needs of the city as the entry of material and supplies mainly the information. Cleverly, they predicted the world today, connected through the internet and handheld products. Stand-alone it has been a movement of many works not carried out, the Archigram was a cauldron of ideas that formed the basis for many other professionalsin architecture in subsequent decades.

The technology scares. The pace of it is strong and constant, and under the guise of “welfare” of society, it shows the average to the human being needs that were never imagined before. Simple example of our day to day, who thought to need something called facebook? A social network that each member has a timeline in its profiles describing all sorts of detail allowed by his own memory. And if technology pass the otherwise to interfere in human affairs? In somewhat more anti-historical, anti-audience, anti-big brother, anti-paranoia?This is the proposal of clinical Gap: an interference with the latest technology in thoughts of their customers in order to erase troublesome, bitterness, sadnees, and love that are impossible to forget. And what are the customers most famous from Gap Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczinsky, also known as Jim Carey, one of his rare dramatic roles (very successful by the way), and Kate Winslet with an eccentric hair inconsistent, rangin from green, blue and orange. A character much more independent and upbeat in the face of it most recently played. The film is not new. Eternal Sunshine of the Spoless Mind, 2004, is an audiovisual piece with, above all, a stunning script. Charlie Kaufman is he drew on the same script adaptation (Adaptation, dir Spike Jonze, 2002), shifting, againt the manual script, a depressive genius. In . Eternal Sunshine of the Spoless Mind, a quotation from Nietzsche defines sensory experience proposed by Kaufman, “blessed are those who forget, because to take advantage of their mistakes”. But we can’t forget, you can’t redeem himself. He therefore proposes that the links are above human technology, up from oblivion. Suggests a possible cycle paths as possible to try.The direction of Michel Gondry, although not to overlap the road map, search in the images, scenes and visual effects, desconstruction mental process suggested by the protagonist, Joel Barish, the scenes lose information, become confused, merge. By finally simply collapse. The technology creates the spotless mind and perhaps even then, the feelings may still not stronger than that. Maybe that’s the message from Charlie Kaufman. Maybe not. It is to misunderstand the case to see for yourself.

performances and visual appeal. The band’s debut was in 1993 with the album Homework. It is common for contemporary artists seek new ways to publicize their work in order to distinguish them from others. The idea of multimedia is now widespread and provides differentiation in this disclosure, strengthening sales. The Daft Punk was one of the pioneers in this dissemination strategy, deciding to raise their video clips to an unusual status: the movie feature. They were joined by Japanese animation studio Toei Animation, known for anime like Sailor Moon and Digimon, and left to turn the tracks on the album

“Discovery” (2001) music video animation. Initially, they launched “One More Time,” “Aerodynamic,”

“Digital Love” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” Thereafter, the video clips joined the other songs, also transfigured into animations in order to construct a narrative. The film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem was launched in December 2003, totaling about 3 years of production.Interstella was born joining the band of sci-fi ideas entertainment and culture. In the script, Cédric Hervet was an important contributor, and the idol of the band, Leiji Matsumoto, had the important job of visual supervising . From this team, came the story of a allien’s band who are abducted by humans having their memories erased, and their appearances

“humanized”. It sounds like an avatar backwards.References at the time of production are obvious, like the idea of the “new millennium”2000s, even if, despite this, there is a certain nostalgia for the years 1970, perhaps by the colors and costumes, maybe the air hallucinogens. Interstella talks about a reality where the villain is a human being, not the “alien threat”. This antagonism is the job of a music producer who you wants to use the talent of the alien band to get the success and realize their evil plan to dominate the universe, of course. Remember, the Daft Punk declined several invitations from record companies and producers that they might have a greater power over their own work, re-fusing the logic of subservience, puppet media. However, there is another character to be opposed to that villain, as if it were a caveat, “not all powerful in the world are like phonograph.” The band’s musicians, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and ThomasBangalter, also used personal references, including childhood, and literature.Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem enchants for the creative story, visual and a well-crafted soundtrack re-markable, earning the nickname “theanimated House Musical. “The relationship between CD tracks and animation creates a pace very cohesive

Then he discovers that Kaplan is a general in thearmy who wants to take the agency of the hands of the police and put it to the military service that would run a totalitarian and oppressive. Finally, to prevent it, he murders Leopold, confirming previous forecasts.Adapted for film by Steven Spielberg in 2002, the story’s narrative suffers several changes in its transposition to the screen: as the physical characteristics of the protagonist described by the author as “bald, fat and old”, in the movie, none of these traits remembers his interpreter: Tom Cruise. Just as the tragic end of the writer’s text, nothing reminds the Hollywood happy ending of the film. The discussion that deals with the text of K. Dick is that the technology generates the decay and chaos. In the tale, the system pre-crime criminals who raised her. Well, if there was no agency, there would be no dispute over its control, so John would never have committed the crime. The values of democracy is also questioned by the author to show through the precogs that the majority opinion is not synonymous with truth and the voice of the minority (the oppressed) is not heard. As often, the true picture. Anderton Kaplan knew the plans, but could not prove, leaving the murder as the only way. The Philip’s New York is represented as a space city high-tech sprawling and unplanned, which refers to the texts of the romantic Victorian period. The city is a negative space, dark and over-populated with buildings and skyscrapers in neon and ambiguous atmosphere and claustrophobic. The similarities of the text with the gothic-romantic literature is the attempt to show the violence of the human condition which sees a changing world, and for present the meeting with the other creature “top” (the precogs, machines) creating a conflict between the humans questioning their identity, necessity and existence. The questions of reason, science and progress, of human existence and post modernity are elements of the cyberpunk literature of Philip K. Dick. His representation of space (or city) shows a subject disoriented and displaced trying to understand the new parameters for theirexistence. That should suit the new culture defined by rapid technological change (especially electronics and informational). The technology at the same time creating benefits, carries only those who keep up with the rapidly changing political, social and economic injustice leaving behind chaos and misery. Minority Report (and all the literature of science fiction) compels the reader to see their present and past, because what he is reading the future, providing a distance capable of promoting new critical reflections on their own time with a slight feeling nostalgic.

In Minority Report, the writer Philip K. Dick shows the high-tech as a symbol of the decline of contemporary society. The growth and spread of high technology has created several political, social and economic phenomena. In the late nineteenth century, a new technology invades everyday life and in the twentieth century, it dominated the life of man. The virtues and the conflicts of these new technologies into society is the subject of a new literature titled “science fiction”. It was born in the context of the Industrial Revolution and consolidates an imaginary machines endowed with artificial intelligence, robots and aliens live with humans. Set in this universe, the American writer Philip K. Dick tells one of his major stories: Minority Report, published in 1956. In it, the cyberpunk writershows the dissolution and the consequent transformation of society’s technological advancement.Sub-genre of science fiction, cyberpunk is known for portraying environments dominated by high technology, and how this can destroy the quality of life. The anti-heroes of this genus are nihilists living solitary and at the margins of society due to rapid technological change. The writer of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, better known as Blade Runner (because the film adaptation), is the great forerunner of this movement that goes beyond the literature to a sub-culture characteristic by fusion of styles and genres such as punk rock, futuristic underground.Set in an indeterminate future, the short story Minority Report tells the story of pre-crime agency, an organization founded by John Anderton to predict crimes and prevent them before they happen. Thus, crime in New York disappears. The text presents the U.S. weakened by global conflicts, economic crisis, poverty and the threat of military coup.To prevent the crimes, the agency uses the gift of three psychics called precogs , they are people with mental deformation and extra-psychic abilities. The system of crime prevention work as follows: a precogs

“see” a crime and provide a comparison with thepremonition of the other two. If either provide the same, the agency considers crime as finished even before it happens. The one with the premonition different from others is the “minority report”, where the individual would not have committed such a crime in which he even know the victim, Leopold Kaplan. John flees to prove the system error.

What stand out for its originality, while being something that fits perfectly with generation after Woodstock, psychedelic, danceable and intelligently and subtly rebellious. It is a fact that electronic music was on the verge of being created, the music industry has progressed in the creation of synthesizers and David Bowie created a legion of clubbers around the world, however the result was well beyond. What we heard and saw were: four men dressed in futuristic uniforms, saying they are the robots. His music clearly did not follow the conventional model of bombastic letters full of discourse and dense melodies. They talk about the relationship between man/machine, criticizing ills of the modern world talking with dystopias of Aldous Huxley, Isaac Assimov and Concret poetry in a musical atmosphere purely “High Tech” where speech is more a musical instrument. His lyrics are wry, subtle, intelligent and sometimes contains disconnected neologisms, which sound perfect in context.Anyway, what is striking in Krafwerk is to understand its influence on almost all set to follow in fashion, behavior, music videos, concerts, etc… The Kraftwerk fulfilled the role of defining what would be the 70’s and 80’s and continue impregnated in our culture today, just telling stories of love between computers.

Star Wars, Matrix, TRON Legacy not only present worlds fictitious light years away or in parallel universes, as also brings a set of information to make that future until then, unknown, sharper with its architecture intergalactic and imaginable clothes. The aesthetic futuristic is somewhat large and varies according to the various perspectives of the future, often inspired by these successes film and tv, but for the most current fashion has its representatives of this school, as Gareth Pugh, Rad Hourani, Viktor&Rolf and others, has shown changes regarding the classic concept imagery than you think in relation to futurism and high tech. After the embezzlement with the creative output of John Galliano and the death of Alexander McQueen, was evident the preoccupation with new techniques that woul take forward a new era of fashion. Was with intricate laser, digital prints and all kinds of modeling that it has taken the first step. Upon the catwalk of high couture fashion week in Paris, we were presented to the sculptural clothes of Iris Van Herpen, wich took over himself a great pressure, representing a rebel outlet using fashion as a platform for artistic experiments, or in this case, architectural, using elements such as metals, plastics, and 3D clipping techniques. Thus, Iris has been consolidating new prospects for the future of fashion, which seems more interested in how clothes are made than in the theme or aesthetic developed, whether it is technological or not.

Kraftwerk is one of those bands that if didn’t exist, the pop culture today would have to be otherwise. Pioneers in almost everything they do, revolutionized not only to create a new style of composition, where they organized their electronic beats following the model of classicist composers, but in order to come up with a concept for the band and create new sensory experiences. The band was created in the early 70’s, the world came from the boom of a decade important to the culture in general, these years have created a patchwork of influences, absorbed by all this new generation.
