man of great importance to the United States. Aside from Bandgeek's

Untitled until now

Story continued from the last edition of the magazine:

It had been only two days since the messengers left. The other governors of the

fragile alliance had honoured his request. Food and soldiers were streaming in.

The village was now busy preparing for defence. Eldain on the other hand had

other concerns on his mind. An example needed to be made, and for that he had

to draw upon his Natar knowledge of warfare once again. A thing he hated to do,

but there was no other way. Deep within the academy, he was working with the

resident master crafters of the workshop, drafting sheets and plans for a terrible

weapon. A weapon that could wipe their opponents village from the face of the

earth in only a few well aimed attacks: the fire-catapult. It was a large, heavy and

slow moving device. But once the first of these mighty siege machines were

ready, he would have them rain hell down upon the treacherous governors

village. It would cause many innocent deaths, that was true. But sometimes you

were left with no other option if this world was to survive.

They worked through the entire day and most of the night. Exhausted, they

closed their eyes for some well deserved rest. But it was not to be, for only

after an hour of rest the horn of battle was sounded. The attack had begun.

Mr. T: We had an argument about Superman and Batman.

Betty: No he's not! He's just a guy with a utility belt and a stupid costume.

Rix: Cut it, Betty. Proceed, Titus.

Mr. T: So, we agreed to solve the problem in a battle of champions. Both of us

got to choose 10 of our finest men to join the fight.

Mr. T: And were obliged not to bring any horses. Indeed, we are measuring the

strength of men, not beasts!

Betty: Men. *lazy*

Mr. T: And we both had 24 hours to prepare for it.

Mr. T: During that time me and my Praetorian Guard prayed to Mars,

polished our weapons and strengthened our bodies.

Mr. T: But then she came with 30 men. *cry*

Rix: Is this true, Betty?

Betty: Well, both yes and no.

Rix: *aha*

Betty: You see, I did take ten of my best axemen.

Mr. T: But the clubsmen, where did they come from? Did they just teleport

in?

Betty: Well, you see, Teutons prepare for fighting by fighting. We... um...

visited some of our neighbors... Um...For some tea and biscuits...And some

clay... And some iron... And some wood... *ehem*

particularly if there's building material and food involved, they can't resist joining

yes, spectate... And couldn't resist joining up when they saw it was heating up?

Betty: *cry* But that Roman cheated! He bought the most expensive piece of

armor he could find. Once we knocked out the slow-poke Praetorian Guard, we

couldn't even scratch him.

Bored, bored, bored... and then!

Travian, the war game, perhaps it isnt just a game but a true reflection of what

war is really like?

War is hell! War is Greed! War is inevitable! War is the ultimate political

answer, but from what Ive been told, read, studied, (never actually been in a

real war myself... And never ever want too) for the ordinary grunt on the

ground war is absolute boredom interspersed with minutes of intense,

adrenalin charged action. Is that what Travian is like for you? It is for me.

So Christmas, New Year and holidays came and went. Artefacts released, but

if you dont participate in there acquisition, then boredom. The desire to login

dissolves. When you do, overflow, spend a lot, then more boredom... Should

you press the delete button? Maybe, but all that time and effort, no way you

can do that!

But then it happens! Through dumb luck, you login and see those red swords

flash at you like the neon lights that shine so bright on Broadway, (on

Broadway)! You are under attack! The fingers twitch, heart pumps a little

faster, the desire to message your leader and say help, help, Im being

attacked! is strong (only cause you know thatll really p them off!). But thenthe basic training kicks in, assess, determine, plan, activate. Its not like you

dont have 2 hours to do this. Attack hits, troops go to digital heaven and you

come off even, second best or maybe totally annihilate your opponent. Now

you are far more active!

Another thing thats as certain as day becoming night, then day again, then

night, day, night, is the breakdown of relationships. Sooner or later you know

the confed will break down. Egos and self gratification will always get in the

way! We are only human after all!

And that is whats happened, amazing how quickly, all in the space of 36

hours. So having said that, this may be my last article as I refuse to jump

alliances anymore! And my IGN? Its Blurty! Why? Because I talk (or rather

type) too much!

Short history and important peopleIts history dates from the 9th century AD, for a long time it was one of the mostpowerful countries in Central Europe.

The 14th century, particularly the reign of Czech King Charles IV is consideredthe Golden Age of Czech history. The most significant events during his reignwere the founding of Charles University in Prague in 1348, building of CharlesBridge, Charles Square, completing much of the Prague Castle and cathedral ofSaint Vitus and building Karltejn Castle in middle Bohemia.

When the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed after World War I, the

independent republic of Czechoslovakia was created in 1918. The mostimportant figure at this time was Tom Garrigue Masaryk, a Czechoslovakpolitician, sociologist and philosopher, who as an eager advocate ofCzechoslovak independence became the founder and first President ofCzechoslovakia.

After World War II Czechoslovakia became a Communist state within theEastern Bloc. This period is characterized by lagging behind the West in almostevery aspect of social and economic development. Between 1948 and 1989more than 250,000 Czechs and Slovaks were sent to prison for "anti-stateactivities" and over 400,000 emigrated.

In November 1989, Czechoslovakia returned to a liberal democracy through thepeaceful "Velvet Revolution". One of the main leaders of the Velvet Revolutionwas Vclav Havel, who recently died. On 29 December 1989 he becamePresident of Czechoslovakia.

However, Slovak national aspirations strengthened and on 1 January 1993, thecountry peacefully split into the independent Czech Republic and Slovakia. Bothcountries went through economic reforms and privatisations, with the intentionof creating a capitalist economy and became NATO and European Unionmembers.

Bohemia was home for some worldwideknown composers like BedichSmetana, Leo Janek and AntonnDvok. The most famous (classical)music festival is "the PragueSpring" (Prask jaro), that has beenorganized annually since 1946.

Czech literature and culture played a notable role on at least two occasionswhen Czech society lived under oppression and little to no political activity was

possible. On both of these occasions, in the early 19th century and then again inthe 1960s, the Czechs used their cultural and literary effort to create politicalfreedom and to establish a confident, politically aware nation.

By the way, did you know that word "robot" was invented by a Czech writer?Karel apek introduced and made popular the frequently used internationalword robot, which first appeared in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)in 1920. While it is frequently thought that he was the originator of the word, hewrote a short letter in reference to an article in the Oxford English Dictionaryetymology in which he named his brother, painter and writer Josef apek, as itsactual inventor.

The most important subject in Czechia was, is and always will be the beer.Czech beer has a long and important history. The first brewery is known to haveexisted in 1118 and the annual beer consumption per capita in Czechia is 156.9litres, including toddlers, which is the highest in the world (and about two timesas much as in the U.S.). The most famous brands are Pilsner, Urquell andBudweiser.

Sports play a part in the life of many Czechs, who are generally loyal supportersof their favorite teams or individuals. The two leading sports in the CzechRepublic are football and ice hockey.

Sport is a source of strong waves of patriotism, usually rising several days orweeks before an event. The events considered the most important by Czechfans are: the Ice Hockey World Championships, Olympic Ice hockeytournament, UEFA European Football Championship, FIFA World Cup andqualification matches for such events. In general, any international match of theCzech ice hockey or football national team draws attention, especially whenplayed against a traditional rival: Germany and Netherlands in football; Russiaand Canada in ice hockey; and Slovakia in both.

The Czech national hockey team is one of the top teams in the world, regularlycompeting in the World Championship and the Winter Olympic Games. Thenational team won their first Olympic Gold at the 1998 Games in Nagano.Prominent Czech players include for example Dominik Haek and Jaromr Jgr.

Also, football has been a popular sportamongst the locals. The sport gainedeven more support when the nationalteam qualified for their first World Cupsince the break-up of Czechoslovakia.

More recently players such as Petrech, Tom Rosick and PavelNedvd have gone on to achieve greatsuccess at top European clubs andhave become national icons.

Sightseeings

Prague has been one of the most beautiful European cities since the MiddleAges. Often called the "City of 100 towers", the "Rooftop of Europe" or the"Heart of Europe", Prague was a place where many merchants, artists andinventors met.

Prague is full of historical monuments and shows all major artistic styles. Thehistorical centre of Prague is situated on both banks of the Vltava river. Pragueis home to a number of famous cultural attractions, many of which survived theviolence and destruction of twentieth century Europe.

Main attractions include the following: Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, OldTown Square, the Jewish Quarter, the Lennon Wall, and Petn hill. On the OldTown Square you can find The Prague Astronomical Clock, which was firstinstalled in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world andthe oldest one still working.

There are also lots of museums, galleries, theatres, concert halls, and otherhistorical buildings. There are also some examples of modern architecture, likethe Dancing House or controversial ikov Television Tower with crawlingbabies, which appeared several times in several world ugliest buildings lists.

The city contains several universities and colleges including the oldest universityin Central and Eastern Europe: the Charles University, founded in 1348.

Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in theUNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. In 2011 Prague was the sixth most v isitedcity in Europe.

There are also lots of spa towns in the Czech Republic, especially in westernBohemia. Between the oldest and most visited are the spas of Karlovy Vary(Carlsbad), Frantikovy Lzn (Franzensbad), Marinsk Lzn (Marienbad)and Teplice. Karlovy Vary are also famous for their international film festival is afilm festival held annually in July. The Karlovy Vary Festival gained worldwiderecognition over the past years and has become one of Europe's major filmevents.

If you like history andhistorical buildings liketemples, churches orcastles, they can be found

in lots of Czech cities,including esk Krumlov,Kutn Hora, Lednice,Hlubok or Tel. 12 placesin the Czech Republic,mostly city centres, arelisted in UNESCO WorldHeritage Sites.

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day marks an important day in New

Zealand history. Every year on February 6

New Zealanders commemorate the day the

Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Mori

and British in the year 1840. Sounds like a

great occasion for both Mori and Pkeh to

celebrate right? Wrong. Waitangi Day is a day

plagued by controversy and conflict, and Im

here to try to explain to you why!

Before I continue, allow me go over some

words that you might not be familiar with:

Mori: Mori are the native people of New

Zealand who were the only settlers of the

country for centuries before Europeans

arrived. The pronunciation for this is hard to

put into words but its something like ma - or-

E. If you sort of connect the or and E and

roll the R sound with your tongue it should

sound about right.

Waitangi: The Treaty of Waitangi was given

its name because it was signed at a place

named Waitangi. In Mori, Waitangi means

weeping waters. No doubt the place was

given this name due to the nearby waterfall.

Maybe I should have told you how to

pronounce Waitangi before using Waitangi

so many times. Err, to pronounce

Waitangi just say why, tongue and E.Why - tongue - E.

Pkeh: This is the Mori word for New

Zealanders who are of European descent.

It is pronounced pah - key - ha.

Now that weve got that

covered, lets get into

it.

Back before Europeans started settling in

New Zealand and before they had even

discovered it, Mori were the only people

living in the country. It is thought that Mori

arrived from eastern Polynesia around the

13th century. In 1642 Dutch explorer Abel

Tasman became the first known European to

discover New Zealand. It wasnt until 1769when British explorer James Cook mapped

almost the entire coastline that Europeans

revisited New Zealand. These outsiders

would completely change the lives of Mori.

Europeans introduced new technology to

Mori and disturbed the natural balance Mori

had set up. They began to purchase land from

Mori and Mori adopted foreign qualities of

Pkeh. All this change resulted in many

conflicts between Mori and Pkeh as wellas among the different Mori tribes. A notable

cause of these conflicts was the introduction

of muskets to the originally Stone Age Mori,

which resulted in the Musket Wars from 1807

to 1842 that devastated the Mori population.

Eventually something had to be done and so

there was British intervention.

The solution was for the British Crown to

negotiate a voluntary transfer of sovereigntyfrom Mori to the Crown. Thus the Treaty of

Waitangi was created. The treaty was written

up by Captain William Hobson, who had

earlier been appointed Consul to New

Zealand, with the help of his secretary, James

Freeman, and British Resident James Busby.

Knowing that the treaty written in English

could not be understood by Mori, a

translation of the treaty was done overnight

on February 4, 1840, by Henry Williams and

his son Edward. It took just four days in totalfor the entire treaty to be prepared.

The next day, on February 5, 1840, copies of

the treaty in both languages were presented

to a group of Mori chiefs who had gathered

inside a marquee on the lawn outside the

house of James Busby. This was of course

done at Waitangi. The Mori chiefs thenbegan to debate over the treaty. Hone Heke,

an influential chief and the first to sign the

treaty and who was in favour of the treaty

had this to say: Governor, you should stay

with us and be like a father. If you go away

then the French or the rum sellers will take

us Mori people over. How to you. Some of

you tell Hobson to go. But that's not going to

solve our difficulties. We have already sold

so much land here in the north. We have no

way of controlling the Europeans who have

settled on it. I'm amazed to hear you telling

him to go! Why didn't you tell the traders and

grog-sellers to go years ago? There are too

many Europeans here now and there are

children that will unite our races.

On February 6, 1840 the main signing of the

treaty took place. Altogether 150 northern

chiefs signed the treaty that day. To enhance

the authority of the treaty eight more copieswere sent around the rest of the country. In

total about 500 signatures were gathered,

although some chiefs refused to sign and

others were not given the chance.

There is controversy over the treaty due to the

different meanings of the English and Mori

versions. Since it is not as long as you might

think, here is the English version of the Treaty

of Waitangi, taken from Wikisource:

Her Majesty Victoria Queen of the United

Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

regarding with Her Royal Favour the Native

Chiefs and Tribes of New Zealand and

anxious to protect their just Rights and

Property and to secure to them the enjoyment

of Peace and Good Order has deemed it

necessary in consequence of the great

number of Her Majesty's Subjects who have

already settled in New Zealand and the rapidextension of Emigration both from Europe and

Australia which is still in progress to constitute

and appoint a functionary properly authorized

to treat with the Aborigines of New Zealand

for the recognition of Her Majesty's Sovereign

authority over the whole or any part of those

islands.

Her Majesty therefore being desirous to

establish a settled form of Civil Government

with a view to avert the evil consequences

which must result from the absence of the

necessary Laws and Institutions alike to the

native population and to Her subjects hasbeen graciously pleased to empower and to

authorize "me William Hobson a Captain" in

Her Majesty's Royal Navy Consul and

Lieutenant Governor of such parts of New

Zealand as may be or hereafter shall be

ceded to Her Majesty to invite the

confederated and independent Chiefs of New

Zealand to concur in the following Articles

and Conditions.

ARTICLE THE FIRSTThe Chiefs of the Confederation of the

United Tribes of New Zealand and the

separate and independent Chiefs who have

not become members of the Confederation

cede to Her Majesty the Queen of England

absolutely and without reservation all the

rights and powers of Sovereignty which the

said Confederation or Individual Chiefs

respectively exercise or possess, or may be

supposed to exercise or to possess, over

their respective Territories as the sole

Sovereigns thereof.

and guarantees to the Chiefs and Tribes of

New Zealand and to the respective families

and individuals thereof the full exclusive and

individually possess so long as it is their wish

and desire to retain the same in their

possession; but the Chiefs of the United

Tribes and the individual Chiefs yield to Her

Majesty the exclusive right of Preemption over

such lands as the proprietors thereof may be

disposed to alienate at such prices as may be

agreed upon between the respective

Proprietors and persons appointed by Her

Majesty to treat with them in that behalf.ARTICLE THE THIRDIn consideration thereof Her Majesty the

Queen of England extends to the Natives of

New Zealand Her royal protection and imparts

to them all the Rights and Privileges of British

Subjects.

Done at Waitangi this Sixth day of February in

the year of Our Lord one thousand eight

hundred and forty.

See? It wasnt that long. The old-school

language just made it seem longer.

If you couldnt make sense of that heres the

short version; firstly the treaty grants

sovereignty of New Zealand over to the

Queen of England, secondly it guarantees

Mori full ownership of their property and that

they will only sell land to the Crown, and

thirdly it grants Mori the same rights as

British subjects.

Controversy surrounds the word sovereignty

in the treaty. Sovereignty means to have full

authority over a geographic area. It is

believed that Mori did not have a word for

sovereignty and basically did not realise what

they were agreeing to due to different wording

used in the Mori version.

Between 1845 and 1872 a series of armed

conflicts took place between Mori and

Pkeh in New Zealand, aptly named the

New Zealand Wars. It has also been given

the name Land Wars. The biggest reason for

these wars was concerning Mori land being

sold to the British in dodgy ways. This ended

in the confiscation of a large amount of Mori

land by the Crown.

To this day there is still much controversy

over the treaty and also over whom the land

belongs to.

So the truth is that Waitangi Day isnt really ajoyous occasion for New Zealand, its

important, but not joyous. The day is officially

commemorated (as a good thing) at the

treaty grounds where the treaty was first

signed, but in recent years protesters have

gathered to vent their anger over the signing

of the treaty. As for the rest of New

Zealanders, weve put the past behind us

and celebrate the day for what it really is, a

holiday.

The year is 1860, and the United States are in turmoil. Congress is divided in half and

the Southern States are threatening to succeed from the Union. One of the major

issues that has split Congress in two? Slavery.

November 1860 - Abraham Lincoln is elected to be President of the United States.

Upon his election, 11 Southern States declared their succession from the Union, and

founded the Confederate States of America, reverting to the Articles of Confederation

as their government. With the Battle of Fort Sumter, the war officially began. Now, theentire World watched as the country that defied an Empire split into two. The World

waited to see if the Union could hold together, or if a new Country would be born.

Why am I telling you this? Because my dear readers, February 12th was Mr. Lincolns

birthday. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America.

While Washington is considered the Father of our Country, Lincoln is considered the

Father of the Union, because he was a key figure in preserving and rebuilding the

Union, after the American Civil War.

Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 and lived to the age of 54 when he was killed

in early April of 1865, just 5 days after the Confederate Army surrendered to Union

forces. He was killed by John Booth, someone who was angry over slavery being

declared illegal in the United States. Slavery was a massive issue leading to the

American Civil War. It divided Congress, and split a Nation in two.

Long before the South surrendered, Abe Lincoln said to

his Generals that punishing the South was not the route

to take, but rather to rebuild it and to welcome them

back into the Union with open arms. This shaped theUnited States current policy on war and foreign

nations.

Lincolns political history didnt simply start as president. From the early 1830s,

Lincoln was a steadfast Whig and professed to friends in 1861 to be, "an old

line Whig, a disciple of Henry Clay". The party, including Lincoln, favored

economic modernization in banking, protective tariffs to fund internal

improvements including railroads, and espoused urbanization as well.

In 1846, Lincoln was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he

served one two-year term. He was the only Whig in the Illinois delegation, but

he showed his party loyalty by participating in almost all votes and making

speeches that echoed the party line. Lincoln, in collaboration with abolitionist

Congressman Joshua R. Giddings, wrote a bill to abolish slavery in the District

of Columbia with compensation for the owners, enforcement to capture fugitive

slaves and a popular vote on the matter. He abandoned the bill when it failed

to garner sufficient Whig supporters. On foreign and military policy, Lincoln

spoke out against the MexicanAmerican War, which he attributed to

President Polk's desire for "military glorythat attractive rainbow, that rises in

showers of blood". Lincoln also supported the Wilmot Proviso, which, if it had

been adopted, would have banned slavery in any U.S. territory won from

Mexico.

Lincoln emphasized his opposition to Polk by

drafting and introducing his Spot Resolutions.

The war had begun with a Mexican slaughter of

American soldiers in territory disputed by Mexico

and the US; Polk insisted that Mexican soldiers

had "invaded our territory and shed the blood of

our fellow-citizens on our own soil". Lincoln

demanded that Polk show Congress the exact

spot on which blood had been shed and provethat the spot was on American soil. Congress

never enacted the resolution or even debated it,

the national papers ignored it, and it resulted in a

loss of political support for Lincoln in his district.

One Illinois newspaper derisively nicknamed him

"spotty Lincoln". Lincoln later regretted some of

his statements, especially his attack on the

presidential war-making powers.

Realizing Clay was unlikely to win the presidency, Lincoln, who had pledged in 1846 to

serve only one term in the House, supported General Zachary Taylor for the Whig

nomination in the 1848 presidential election. Taylor won and Lincoln hoped to be

appointed Commissioner of the General Land Office, but that lucrative patronage job

went to an Illinois rival, Justin Butterfield, considered by the administration to be a

highly skilled lawyer, but in Lincoln's view, an "old fossil". The administration offered

him the consolation prize of secretary or governor of the Oregon Territory. This distant

territory was a Democratic stronghold, and acceptance of the post would have

effectively ended his legal and political career in Illinois, so he declined and resumedhis law practice.

Lincoln returned to practicing law in Springfield, handling

"every kind of business that could come before a prairie

lawyer". Twice a year for 16 years, 10 weeks at a time, he

appeared in county seats in the mid-state region when the

county courts were in session. Lincoln handled many

transportation cases in the midst of the nation's western

expansion, particularly the conflicts arising from the operation

of river barges under the many new railroad bridges. As a

riverboat man, Lincoln initially favored those interests but

ultimately represented whoever hired him. His reputation grew,

and he appeared before the Supreme Court of the United

States, arguing a case involving a canal boat that sank after

hitting a bridge. In 1849, he received a patent for a flotation

device for the movement of boats in shallow water. The idea

was never commercialized, but Lincoln is the only president to

hold a patent.

In 1851, he represented Alton & Sangamon Railroad in a dispute with one of its

shareholders, James A. Barret, who had refused to pay the balance on his pledge to

buy shares in the railroad on the grounds that the company had changed its original

train route. Lincoln successfully argued that the railroad company was not bound by itsoriginal charter in existence at the time of Barret's pledge; the charter was amended in

the public interest to provide a newer, superior and less expensive route, and the

corporation retained the right to demand Barret's payment. The decision by the Illinois

Supreme Court has been cited by numerous other courts in the nation. Lincoln

appeared before the Illinois Supreme Court in 175 cases, in 51 as sole counsel, of

which 31 were decided in his favor. From 1853 to 1860, another of Lincoln's largest

clients was the Illinois Central Railroad.

Lincoln's most notable criminal trial occurred in 1858 when he defended

William "Duff" Armstrong, who was on trial for the murder of James Preston

Metzker. The case is famous for Lincoln's use of a fact established by judicial

notice in order to challenge the credibility of an eyewitness. After an opposing

witness testified seeing the crime in the moonlight, Lincoln produced a

Farmers' Almanac showing the moon was at a low angle, drastically reducing

visibility. Based on this evidence, Armstrong was acquitted. Lincoln rarely

raised objections in the courtroom; but in an 1859 case, where he defended a

cousin Peachy Harrison, who was accused of stabbing another to death,

Lincoln angrily protested the judge's decision to exclude evidence favorable to

his client. Instead of holding Lincoln in contempt of court as was expected, the

judge, a Democrat, reversed his ruling, allowing the evidence and acquitting

Harrison.

When Lincoln was elected to be President of the United States in November of

1860, 7 Southern States succeeded from the Union, declaring the election to

be rigged and unjust. Leading up to the attack of Fort Sumter, the remaining 4

states that formed the Confederacy succeeded from the Union. Up to the point

of the attack at Fort Sumter, the Union and the Confederacy existed togetherin peace. Confederate forces laid siege to the Fort, and the Fort sent a request

to the Office of the President for troops and supplies. When this request was

granted, the Confederacy saw it as a direct act of war and fired upon the Fort,

forcing the defending troops to surrender.

It is considered by many that Lincoln had the worst job of any President to

date. Why? Because he fought to preserve the Union and the Nation that had

been founded by the forefathers, while the entire World watched and waited.

Hello dear readers!

And welcome to another edition of Funny Holidays. Honestly, with every new magazine issue, I am more and more surprised with

the sheer amount of these holidays each month has. Personally, February always seemed like a very dull month; the only time it

saw some action was when it was time for a leap year (like this one). But, Ive been proven wrong.

Ill start with February 9th because the holiday observed on this day gives me the chills; it is National Toothache day and I hate the

dentist. Though, to be honest, Im not perfectly clear on whether this day is to celebrate dentistry is some weird form (as in, hey,

go visit your dentist, you slob) or if its celebrating various nasty forms of tooth pain and disease. If its the latter, why oh why

would anyone ever want to celebrate toothache?

A day later, on February 10th, we were to observe Umbrella day. Contrary to popular belief, this has very little to do with Miss

Rihanna. Instead, you are just to worship the glorious invention of the umbrella. Yes, it seems senseless, but, come to think of it,

try and remember how many times these nifty contraptions have saved you from the harshness of natures elements and kept you

from getting a bad cold. Indeed, if you look at i t in that particular contest, umbrellas really are worth celebrating.

Again, a day later, we have another funny holiday. You know the old saying, dont cry over spilled milk? Well, theres an actual

holiday about it too. Namely, its Dont Cry over Spilled Milk Day. Hopefully, you didnt spill your milk while trying to eat your

breakfast bowl of cereals.

Now, February 15th has a really nice holiday attached. Its Singles Awareness Day and boy, Im definitely celebrating this one.

Dont you just hate people who have to have a relationship in order to be even remotely happy? The people who can never, ever

be alone, probably because theyre scared senseless of it, but instead they wrap it up and present it as ifyoure the loser if youre

single? Well, I do. Therefore, Im marking this one down on my calendar; hell, Ill mark it down on allmy calendars: PC, mobile

phone, the one in my wallet and the one on my fridge. If I find another calendar, Ill circle February 15th in red there too.

Anyway, February 17th is My Way Day. On this day, you can do whatever the heck you like! Thats right, whatever(as long as it

doesnt include violating the law). Do i t your way, or else i ts the highway!

Im just going to briefly mention February 20th, because its Love Your Pet Day. If you ask me, every day should be Love Your Pet

Day, but on this particular date, you actually have a reason to celebrate it publicly! Go out with your cat, dog, hamster, iguana,

white mouse, chinchilla, squirrel, tiger, bear or unidentified genetically engineered hybrid animal and proclaim your love and

devotion to them! But leave your snakes at home. They freak me out.

Finally, worthy of mention is also February the 29th. This day really deserves to be marked in some way because it occurs only

once every four years. When its a rare thing, it also usually means its a good thing.

The final pieces of the board have been in play for some time and a lot has changed since our last journey onto this

epic server, rightly named number 1 for a reason. It could last a long time. Even the holders have changed and somemajor attacks and demonstrations have been held. While "L.I.F.E" was so close to victory when we last visited the

server, their WW has been hit hard in the meantime. If the person below has held the WW in the last episode, the

number in brackets is the old level.

As can be seen, two new entries have occurred, most likely steals as they were both WW's of "L.I.F.E" and were held

one each by "Stoodges" and "return of kings". Both now hold neither. A major move to pass or a major move to steal

occurred. Is this the first sign of a breakaway alliance again, or good attacking tactics? It is surprising to see such

mega attacks since our last v isit which humbled a large number of alliances listed above. With "L.I.F.E" miles in front,

it was an epic battle that brought their WW down nearly 20 levels and some epic resource logistics to bring "

united's WW up nearly 40 levels. Great cunning and planning can be seen from afar.

The top 3 power players have changed slightly with "Triple Glory" falling from 3rd to 4th in the charts. The yet to be displaced "Tiberius" stands like a king of the server at the fore, with "bieslus" and "bachone" in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. While the

3 offensive players are the still the same, their positions have changed. With "Triple Glory's displacement as a population

king, he managed to launch himself into the top spot of the attacking charts, standing nearly 18,000 points in front of "noobzi"

in 2nd and 38,000 points ahead of "Tiberus" in 3rd. The defensive table will account for WW holders and maybe arti and Plan

holders near the end (unless some grudge exists). The top 3 defensive organizers are the same but again the positions have

changed. "Aboud" stands yet again as the number one - not surprising considering his WW took a hell of a beating and still

stands tall. "-DEADMONE-" has arisen one place to 2nd and replaced "Choas" who slips one place. This race is tightly

contested. For the 2nd month running the hero of the tale is "Maksim".

The active player count shows that a mere 980 players are left in the game. An epic tale is being fought where neither side iswilling to let this slip away. Who can blame them? This is the crowning server. This is the Number 1 Travian server. This is

where history makes itself known. The winners will be remembered, but who remembers those who fought valiantly against

them? Who shall rise about the mist and crown their masterpiece? There is still time for a new tale to be finalized on this

challenging server.

A tower, what good is a tower? Does it have defensive means? Offensive powers, the ability to scout farther afield? No, these towers

achieve domination, supreme rulership of all the lands of Travian. They are more coveted then the rare artefacts. Only one tower canexist fully completed. Only one supreme tower.

back into the fore. This is like a game of chess. After each move, there is more though to be taken. But do the "MDS" players have some

troops left to fire at the 4 leading WW's now. An epic battle of thievery is also in play when you look at the WW of "Vampire". Have they

lost their plans or is this just a case of continuous attacks?

"A pale light has a tendency to be brighter then a shining star."

The light depends on the mood, the setting and of course the server. The classics have bread greatness from the very onset of these

magnificent servers. There are 4,472 of these classic gamers left on this epic world. While being a classic, it still holds the old school of

more Romans than other tribes.... The server has 38% roman accounts. While the Teutons are the telling factor as they are played by

less gamers and only those with ... well, crazy tendencies or willing to go for the extreme tend to play this tribe.

This server is balanced for the moment. The top two alliances are setting the pace. "AirForce" and "LFL" are leading the following pack.

Very few metas or zorgs are appearing, which is a rare thing. The leading players of the pack are "Viky", "Bob Marley" and "Dark Side" all

operating in 3 different alliances. The offensive favourites of the month are "Drunken Hippo!", "Dani drives Brm" and "poppie". Each of

these exceeds 1,000 points of attacking scores. On the other front, those slaughtering the troops are "British Lion", "maba" and "DNM".

The server is young enough based on the stats and scored. Yet and epic journey is occurring. Who at the end will stand victorious?

"Vampire" and "Lord Black" still stand at the fore with ranks 1 and 2, while "Superkvell" now jumps into 3 rd place. The heroes of legend are

still"Vampire" with "Hedonism" at his tail.

The end is coming, that is a guarantee. If it lasts another month it will show some character. Just over 1,000 brave soldiers remain on this

gaming world. They will see it out, I am sure.

"The War drums are beating now. A Quad war is looming."

6,219 active gaming players remain. The brave are those that stand in the dirt, attempting to slow the oncoming slaughter. Indee d, all

servers are alike, but in here there are some special alliances that tend to take a new meaning on the epic word of "WAR". "CWL" and

"DA" are two old school alliances that hold no sway for anything but victory. And even pure victory is not their goal; outright victory through

war is their main intent.

What looks like the first real eclipsing goal of any server is the first move of kings, where great alliances form confederations with each

other. That being said, "CWL" and "DA" have jumped into bed together. This is a scary thought for any server, but having two giant

alliances now forming a powerhouse is indeed something to behold. They are known for hammers more so than for their anvils, f or tactics

more than strength. But yet who would dare oppose them? Why, the other major factions of course. "JTT" have formed their ranks and

war has been declared and while they have power in numbers, it is a long way away from proving numbers are mightier than tactics. Timewill tell of this quest for glory.

While "CWL" still dominate the tables as the powerhouse players, the new number one player is that of "DA"; "CaioMario" is at the fore

with "BullHym" and "Dom" standing at the rear. The attacking board proves that this server is at war when you see the all the changes.

While 2 of the top 3 remain in this month, the count from the previous top 3 shows a massive boast in a killing spree. "euserthainx",

"DTFT" and "Bellothyme" are the 3 kings of doom. Again, 2 out of 3 remain the same in the defensive board with "Just 4 fun" and

"FatDragon" still in positions one and two, with a new third in "Al capone" coming up the ranks. The outstanding hero has not changed; "K

I English" still stands strong, however he has grown a further 5 levels since our last foray into this warzone.

It is a majestic sight, seeing such passion arriving in force. But can they yet show their old school talents? Can the might of the multi

winner and renowned "MrCatfish" show that "DA" is still a force or will the "JTT" team lead by "Takoyaki" show that they are still supreme?

Not forgetting of course the CWL horde, but even if they have a lot of members, where is the home of their lord? Whose banner will

lead the way forward?

The classics are always those that lead to the future. However, some classics cannot be done years ago but now, in the heat of battle, tc6

The WW race is shooting ahead. The WWs are reaching for the stars in some cases. Listed below are the current holders and it is known

that the leader was the only player with a WW moving upwards in the previous edition at level 13, so a massive leap has occurred.

of the age still belongs to "C&E" in "missy".

The clock is running out and the end is in sight. The board is depleted with little or no pieces left for a surprise launch. Is the server

ready to close or is there a fairytale ending for the unknown?

"Of all things great, the feat of man is the greatest."

Fresh from the makers, this realm is opened two months now. Not much can be gleaned except the earlier challengers and risers. The

board and dye are cast, can the current crop change the fate that is now their burden, who among them will show courage and run the

server and run the WW. Who will win... is the key...

The Top 5 alliances are "HUN-F", "Generals", "AE", "MRA-N" and "HUN-G". The meta of Hun is the only set to have an addition in the top

5. The alliance "Generals" are the best at offensive movements currently while "AE" are the overseers of defence on this world. The top 3

have changed completely, "LyngeJakobsen", "greatmouse" and "Tai -pan" now stand as the top 3 players. The players boasting the best

attacking spirit are "Favel", "StoltViking" and "Klars". The defensive board is slightly different, where "Firephly", "Persian Warrior" and

"P.C" stand at the fore. It is worthy to mention that "P.C" is also rank 4 on the attacking board. The hero of the month belongs to "isra"

and this hero is the leader of the heroes at level 45.

Again, no early tell tale signs can be made. Generals are showing their mirth while AE are a good solid team. Will they offer something

later on? Secret deals perhaps?

To win this server, a leader will have to gain the faith of all his followers and not just the core. In our last issue there were 10,282 active gamers; that

number is now down to 7,445. Indeed, an epic tale is playing itself out and this server has fear in its build. It is somewhat of a speed server and most

gamers cannot cope with the change.

risen in level to 122. "Ipun" now is crowned the hero leader with level 128.

The challenge is to be the best here. Time is still on all gamers sides.

The second server of the qualifications, the server that was born through sheer numbers... What was once 12,509 in numbers is now only 6,751 inactive gamers, like the other server of its kind. Indeed these servers move far too fast to allow players to settle in slowly. They are like a wave

sweeping over a ship. The wave will not slow or falter, only the ship will.

The analysis here will do the same as with the other qualification server. I shall list the top 10 alliances at the moment, and if they were in the last top

10, they will have a number beside their name showing their previous position.

CROP LOCK

In Travian, the more crop/wheat you have, the bigger the army you can support. When deciding to attack an enemy,

you have to consider various factors. One factor is the enemy player's ability to get reinforcements from their alliance.

As long as there is crop in the village, with space to store i t, the enemy can last practically indefinitely. One way to

instantly cripple an enemy player is to CROP LOCK them. In order to do this on a 4-4-4-6 village for example, you need

to destroy the following; Target the GRANARY, MAIN BUILDING, MILL, BAKERY and ALL the crop fields. This will

leave the village in a negative crop state. Remember that each building consumes a little bit of crop. Even with no

troops in your village, there is still a demand for crop, which leaves you in a negative crop state. Whilst it IS possible to

recover from a crop-lock, it is VERY difficult and time consuming. Due to the negative crop situation, any reinforcing

troops stationed there will starve to death. It is a great way of turning an enemy village into a safe farm!

Get to know:Bandgeeks Survival Guide : Catapults, Rams, Scouts And Chiefs

Welcome back! If your server is decently along, youll have noticed that in

Travian we have some very specialtroops. (Take a look at the subtitle!) So lets

have a look, shall we?

I: Chiefs

Ive already exposed you a bit to the Chief, or administrative unit, so lets justreview. Chiefs are needed to conquer a new village from another player, not to

found a new village. The requirements vary a bit by tribe, so Ill just do the

basics. If you have a residence, you will need a level 10 or 20 to train your

administrative unit. If you have a palace, they can be trained at levels 10, 15,

and 20. These can be found in the answers, or in the in -game instruction

manual.

The in-game instruction manual can be found by clicking the question mark in

the bottom left hand corner of the screen, and then short instruction.

II: Scouts

Would any war game truly be complete without scouts? Yep thats right!

Scouts! Now of course, they are called different things in-

game, for instance forRomans, they are called Equites Legati. They are used to gather information

about another village. Select a target, and then fill in only your scouts. If there

are other troops on the attack, the scouts will not do their job.

Once this has been done, you will be brought to this screen:

You will have the option to scout either resources or defenses. Either way, you

will always scout troops. In the defenses is included the rally point level, wall,

and palace/residence.

Once you have decided what youd like click confirm.

Hint: You can always send two waves ;)

One thing you should know about scouts is that on scouting missions, scouts donot engage in combat unless defending scouts are present, in which case, the

attacking scouts will attempt to kill them. If any of the attacking scouts survive,

the attacker will get the battle report. Otherwise they will get the error message

on the report None of your scouts returned, and no information.

III: Rams and Catapults

Yes, thats right, rams and catapults!

I dont have very many, but I do have enough to destroy things! *evil grin* The

rams sole purpose in Travian is destroy walls! Catapults destroy everything else

in the village. Why is it important to destroy walls? Because walls add a defense

bonus! The lower the defense bonus, and defense points the less troops the

attacker will lose in the attack.

When you send an attack with catapults, you will be given the option to

select your target. Something you should know is that the higher yourrally

point, the more targets you can select. If you upgrade your rally point

completely, to level 20, and you send at least 20 catapults on the assault, you

will be able to target two buildings at once.

Select your target, enter your t roops, and you will be brought to this screen:

Select your targets in the drop down menu, and send away!

Hint: Catapults and rams are both weak against troops. You should always

send an escort with them to mop up any remaining defenders.

Before you send a catapult wave, it is always advised to send a sweeper wave,or a hammer to clear out any defenders. Some people even send fakes. Fakes

are attacks that are only a single troop. As you know, anytime you send a single

troop, they will always be killed.

Congratulations! Com7 has ended!

In case you didnt know, com7 was my newb guide server - AKA the server Ivegotten most of my screen shots for the guide up to this point for. Watching

as a 3rd person point of view, it has definitely been an interesting round. Sofrom me to you, Id like to wish Vortex from the alliance WILD congratulations

for building the wonder and ending the server!

All players from com7 2011-2012 played well! Best of luck to all of you in future

servers.

"guk" was ruler over the largest personal empire, followed closely by

"Shadowwalker" and " RobertP".

"Stein Bagger" slew more than any other, and was the mightiest, most

fearsome commander.

"Vortex" was the most glorious defender, slaughtering enemies at the village

gates, staining the lands around those villages with their blood.

The server ended at an age of 252 days.

Hello dear champions,There havent been many new developments in regards to technical difficulties (save

for a few event jams again) concerning the qualification servers. Still, there are a few

questions left to be answered which we of ten receive from players.

Bots? Bots? Bots? Bots? Bots?

Have you ever heard of White Hats? They are also called sneakers. These are

essentially hackers, but good hackers they work in preventing the bad ones from

violation web security. But, although White Hats are naturally highly skilled and

proficient at what they do, bad hackers generally quickly find ways around new

security measures.Its the same with Travian and Travian Bots. No matter how hard we try to eradicate

them, some new script or bot will show its ugly face sooner or later. Now, Y2 was

plagued by a plethora of bot accounts. The good thing is, these accounts were all tied

to a few players. Weve found them out and our struggle with them lasted for severaldays until we finally found a way to stop them.That being said, Y2 is now for the most part bot free. If there are a few abusers left, be

sure that we will find them out sooner or later and well make sure they are disqualified

from the tournament.

Same IP: not with me!A number of players have been complaining about battle reports containing the same IP

between users error notice. Now, many claim that this is impossible and that they never

shared a PC or IP or anything else for that matter with the other player.I need to take the time to explain how the auto-protection system works here. You see,

the raid/conquer limitation may be imposed for a number of reasons. For example, if

youve used a public access network (such as public wi -fi) or a public access PC (such

as a PC in an internet caf) and that same access point was used relatively recently by

another player on the same server, our automatic system will detect this immediately and

impose its limitation. It is that efficient that only one identical hit is enough for it to be

triggered.Alternatively, if youve been bad and ever allowed another player to access your account

with your password, dont complain when the limitation is imposed. Note that such an act

may cause an utter mess and involve your duals, sitters and the duals and sitters of the

other party. The more time such a player accesses your account (or vice versa), the

longer the limitation will stick.Additionally, the same limitations will apply to current and former sitters (for 2 weeks after

sitter status was terminated), as well as alliance members (for up to 48 hours once you

or an ally leaves the alliance).

Finally, if youve been using proxies (either to mask your illegal activities or just

because you like them for some obscure reason), remember that proxies allot their IPs

to many users, some of which may also play the game and use their services.

Therefore, the auto-protection system will also kick in. There is a very small chance

that, due to dynamic IPs provided by your ISP, you and another user belonging to the

same ISP may have gotten the same IP at some point. The auto-protection system will

also activate in this instance.

There is nothing anyone from the team can do to help you with deactivating thesystem; it is hard coded and therefore out of our hands.

Trouble in paradise: spies

I hate to burst your bubble, but spies are not illegal. Perhaps they are unethical and

immoral, but according to the rules, not illegal and therefore not punishable. If you

think you have a spy in your alliance, then you will have to deal with this intrusion in

your own way. Whether youre going to kick them out, destroy them or just keep an

eye on them and feed them false information is entirely up to you, but contacting the

MH and requesting that a spy be punished is not an option.

In-game threats vs. real life threats

If youre going to report someone for threatening you via IGM, then it is important that

you know what is illegal here and what isnt.

Namely, threatening someone with in-game actions is not illegal and therefore not

punishable by the MH. If someone tells you they are going to attack you, destroy you or

force you to delete your account Well, unfortunately, such things are part of the game.

If we were to punish for in-game threats, we might as well punish anyone who attacks

you and catapults your village to the ground.

If these messages are sent in an offensive tone containing profanities, the sender will still

be held accountable for violating the Netiquette rule.

Threats with actions in real life are something entirely different. If someone is telling you

they are going to find you, kill you, harm you, threaten your family and so on, you are to

report them immediately and we will deal with the player accordingly, assess the validity

of the threat and if necessary even contact the appropriate authorities.

Dear readers,

We have made some changes to the Target Number game. Please read

the instructions carefully, since the rules have now changed.

You are presented with a target number along with eight other smaller

numbers. You are supposed to use these eight numbers and apply the five

basic mathematical operations (subtracting, adding, dividing, multiplying and

brackets) in order to get the target number. The numbers are such that they will

give you the exact target number once theyve been properly combined.

However, you need only use 7 numbers to achieve the task one of the

numbers you are given is surplus and is not needed at all to reach the target.

Example:

Target number: 490

Available numbers: 18, 6, 8, 4, 12, 25, 1, 19

Operations: +, -, *, /, ( )

Combine the numbers to get the target number. You may only use the

numbers only once. You do not have to use all of the offered numbers.

4 * ((19+1) + 8(25 12)) 6 = 4(20 + 8 * 13) 6 = 4(20 + 104) 6 = 4 * 124

6 = 496 6 = 490

In this particular case, we have discerned that the number 18 isnt needed, but

it doesnt have to be. You may kick out any number, based on your preference.

Still, please remember that in the final equation you must use only 7 numbers

and not all 8. In addition, unlike in the previous version, you must use all of the

7 numbers this means that if you were to get to the target number with less

than seven numbers used, we will not accept your answer as correct.

ATTENTION: When submitting your result, please dont just send us your f inalsolution. For obvious reasons, we also need the formula you used to get the

number. All of the formulas will be checked to see if they are

accurate and give the number you have submitted.

In addition, you must also provide us with the 7 numbers youve selected to

use out of 8 (or at least tell us which number you didnt use) this is purely so

that we can analyze your equation with more ease, without having to look

through everything in order to discern which number you kicked out.
