Carnival Festivities | FunchalFrom February, 3rd to 10th

 The spirit of revelry and carnival rhythms return to Funchal’s city centre to the sound of marches and

philharmonic bands, in a festival that, every year, guarantees a large dose of joy and entertainment. The

contagious festival atmosphere awakens the carnival spirit among residents and visitors.

 These festivities bring together a group of official and popular initiatives, deeply rooted in Madeiran

tradition, the high point of which culminates on the evening of Saturday the 6th of February with a majesticfloat parade along the main streets of the Madeira capital, comprising several troupes made up of

thousands of participants. Shrove Tuesday, on the 9th of February, is set aside for the “Trapalhão” Parade.

 This parade, open to the entire population, has traditional popular roots and its main ingredients are

humour and satire. Later the Carnival revelry converges on Praça do Mar, where prizes are awarded to the

most creative participants in a very festive environment.

The Stars Route | FunchalFrom February, 19th to 23rd

 The Stars Route is identified as one of the most significant festivals of haute cuisine that takes place in

Portugal; it showcases unique flavours created by chefs from around the world who have been awarded

with the renowned Michelin Guide stars.

 The emblematic Michelin star restaurant “Il Gallo D’Oro”, whose host is the famous French chef Benoît

Sinthon, is once again part of this culinary event.

 The official programme for this event includes a wide range of initiatives, specifically shows cookings,

workshops, gourmet tasting menus and wine tastings, as well as, guided tours aimed at raising awareness

of regional gastronomic products.

Regional Custard Apple Exhibition | Faial, SantanaFrom February, 20th to 21stOrganised by the Faial Parish Council, this annual event pays tribute to one of the most grown subtropical

fruits in the region - the Custard Apple.

 This initiative takes place in Faial and features the participation of some local farmers, who promote the

production of this tropical fruit and related products, such as liquors, puddings, ice creams and milkshakes.

 This activity also includes plenty of entertainment, music and competitions, in a setting very similar to the

traditional Madeira festivity (“arraial”).

Funchal Weddings Fair “Funchal Noivos & Festas” | FunchalFrom February, 26th to 28th

 The Funchal Trade and Commerce Association - Madeira Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACIF-CCIM)

organises this event every year, in the shape of an exhibition aimed at promoting the islands of Madeira and

Porto Santo as destinations of choice for the weddings and honeymoons sector.

Over three days, the Pestana Casino Park Hotel hosts this themed exhibition, during which different localcompanies promote a wide range of wedding party planning and organisation support services.

 The official programme includes numerous entertaining activities, including fashion shows by regional and

Portuguese stylists, as well as, a range of workshops related to the subject of the event, which will be held

at Pestana Fórum Casino.
