DRESSAGE PROGRAMAT ALCAINÇA

Before your first lesson you will talk with your instructor about what you are currently doing

and what you hope to achieve from the holiday and the course.

An interest in dressage is important on this holiday; you will need to be willing to learn

from the experienced instructors to get the most out of your

holiday.

Instructors are multilingual and teach in English, French, Portuguese,

Italian, Spanish. Riders benefit from both experienced schoolmasters and

professional trainers.Our lessons take as long as the rider needs to achieve the particular goal for the

lesson. In general, group lessons are 90 minutes long, with individual

lessons a bit shorter.

WORKING EQUITATIONA L C A I N Ç A R I D I N G C E N T R E

Escola de Equitação de Alcainça now offers a special Working Equitation Program in addition to its’ renowned Classical

Dressage Courses. Portugal has a long history of horse breeding and equitation, and the Lusitano horse, the Portuguese national breed, is a cultural living treasure. Portuguese Equitation (Equitação a

Portuguesa) and Working Equitation (Equitação de Trabalho) are two equestrian disciplines that have been practiced in

Portugal for centuries, proving the excellence, ease of handling and the manoeuvrability of the Lusitano horse as a partner and

working horse.The week-long Working Equitation Program provides riders the

opportunity to learn more about Portuguese Equitation (Equitação à Portuguesa) and Working Equitation (Equitação de Trabalho) by practising on Lusitano school masters. The program includes an introduction to preparing horses with

INSTRUCTION· Portuguese Equitation and Working Equitation classes are taught by our

instructor João Batalha who has been competing in these disciplines with

some of our school horses.

· A maximum of 2 riders per group ensures instruction on an individual level which will allow you to benefit

most from your lessons at Escola de Equitaçao de Alcainça. The lessons

are taught in English.

· A good basic riding level is required to participate. Riders shall be save in all three gaits (walk, trot and canter)

and understand the basics of dressage.

· Traditional Portuguese tack will be used for all riding instruction on our

WORKING EQUITATION PROGRAM AT ALCAINÇA

- Introduction to preparing horses with traditional Portuguese tack- Riding lesson in Portuguese Equitation (Dressage)- Working Equitation (Maneability)- Visit to a Saddlery- Visit to a Stud Farm ("Coudelaria") dedicated to horse breeding - Lusitano Horse- Afternoon hack on the local countryside (approx. 60 min)

* Traditional Portuguese tack is being used in both Portuguese Equitation and Working Equitation on our school horses!
