JUNO

You know, I've been thinking. I'm really sorry I was such a huge bitch to you.

You didn't deserve that. You never deserve any of the poo I unload on you.

No, you're naturally smart. You always think of the funniest things to do.

Remember when you passed me that postcard during Spanish class, and it was

addressed like, "Junebug MacGuff, Row 4, Third Seat from the Blackboard"? And

it said, "I'm having fun in Barcelona -- wish you were here"? That was hilarious.

Plus, you're the only person who doesn't stare at my stomach all the fucking

time. You actually look at my face. And every time I look at you, the baby starts

kicking me super

I think it's because my heart starts pounding when I see you.

Basically, I'm completely smitten with you, and I don't care if I'm making an ass

out of myself right now, because you've seen me make an ass out of myself a

million times, and you still want to be my friend.

In the film, Juno writes Vanessa a note:

Imagine that, instead of a note, she decided to write her an email,

explaining her decision. Write about 100 words.

Imagine that you‘ve had a baby/your girlfriend has had a baby. Write an

email to a friend, telling him/her what it is like to be a teenage mother/father.

Juno is sixteen years old and she herself made an appointment to have an abortion. In USA, some states don‘t require parental notification for minors to

undergo this procedure. In Brazil, women are not allowed to abort unless they have been raped or the pregnancy represents serious risk of life. What do you

think about this question? Are you pro or con abortion and in what circumstances? Write a text about the subject comparing both legal systems.

You can introduce the HIV topic at the end of the activity as well.

Do you think it is a good idea to give the baby to adoptive parents?

In some people’s opinion the film “Juno” provides a much too positive view of teen pregnancy and teaches nothing but irresponsibility. Read the following statements, then discuss:

Does “Juno” take teen pregnancy lightly?

I have seen Juno about three times now and feel I have a firm grasp on the struggles and concepts presented. My final conclusion was that I didn't think Juno took teen pregnancy lightly. The film didn't focus on the struggles she had to endure being pregnant, although it didn't overlook them either. It touched on her dealing with the changes her body was going through, the embarrassing stares and treatment from her classmates, and the sudden responsibilities forcing her to act older then she was. I never got a feeling like the movie was preaching that teen pregnancy isn't that big a deal.

What the film does quite well is show that the sex was not the best decision, and the resulting pregnancy was a consequence which had to be dealt with. Juno dealt with it in her way, and she was responsible. Going way beyond her age, she showed that she thought about the easy way out, chose not to, and found another way to deal: give the baby for adoption. What I took away is that although teen pregnancy is not a good thing, something good can come from it! But, one man's sacrifice or pain is another man's joy. I think that's the message here (although it may not work out this beautifully in ALL cases).

As a parent, see the film with your kids, talk about what your kids learned or think and have a good conversation about movies and reality, about sex and responsibility, and also about the film as a FILM.

Juno seems like a sweet little movie. The dialogue is adorable - snappy, smart, funny, captivating - and who

wouldn't enjoy that? But I was Juno once - that sixteen year old pregnant girl, and life isn't like that at all. The

film delivers messages to young women that aren’t realistic. Juno is an adorable fantasy - I think that when

you're 16 years old you don't understand that, but when you're 50 years old you do.
