Becas posdoctorales en MunichLudwig-Maximilians-Universität München is one of the largest and

most esteemed institutions of higher learning in Germany, offering a

wide range of academic disciplines.

The chair for Late Antique and Arabic Philosophy (Prof. Dr. Peter

Adamson) at the Faculty for Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and

Philosophy of Religion at the LMU seeks a postdoctoral researcher for

the DFG-Forschungsprojekt „Natur in politischen

Ordnungsentwürfen: Antike, Mittelalter, Neuzeit“   to be appointed as

of October 1, 2017. 

Postdoctoral researcher  (temporary position: two years)

Your responsibilities: 

• Research within the DFG sponsored research group „Natur in

politischen Ordnungsentwürfen: Antike, Mittelalter, Neuzeit,“ in the

sub-project group devoted to ancient and medieval philosophy.

• Participation in further activities of the research group.

Your profile:

Prerequisites are an excellent university degree and completed, or

almost completed, doctoral degree in Philosophy or a closely related

field, as well as expertise in the area of the research project (medieval

philosophy, in either Latin Christendom or the Islamic world). A

further requirement is native or near-native facility in German or

English, the capacity for creativity and teamwork, result-oriented work

and a willingness to meet new challenges. 

The holder of the position will be responsible for producing a

substantial output of publishable research (four articles over two years,

or equivalent) on topics in medieval philosophy. The central concern of

the project is the medieval reaction to the ancient idea that God’s

rulership to the universe is comparable to that between a political ruler

and the state that s/he governs. Thus potential topics could include:

cosmic disorder and its explanation in the light of divine providence;

the universality or particularity of God’s providence; use of natural

philosophy in political philosophical discourse; texts drawing, or

questioning, the parallel between the state and the cosmos.

Department’s project Rationality in Perception: Transformations ofMind and Cognition 1250-1550 invites applications for the position of

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

for a fixed term from September 1st, 2017 to March 31st, 2020.

The project aims to investigate late medieval theories of mind andcognition focusing on the relation between intellect and the senses, theactivity of perception, and the development of models of facultypsychology (a description of the project can be foundhere:  http://blogs.helsinki.fi/rationality-in-perception/project-description/). Candidates are expected to conduct research on theabove-mentioned research project, namely by doing research on latemedieval theories of perception, especially within the Augustiniantradition. More precise research tasks will be decided together with theproject’s PI and always subjected to his approval.

According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, theappointee must hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conductindependent scientific work. Working knowledge of Latin and

medieval philosophy are obligatory requirements. Skills in reading and

experience in editing manuscripts will be considered an advantage. In

addition to research, the successful applicant is also expected to take

on some teaching duties that shall not represent more than 5 per cent

of the annual working hours as well as contribute the activities of the

research project (reading group, workshops, etc.). The person should

have good social skills, and have a pro-active attitude toward his/her

work.

According to the Government Decree on Universities, postdoctoral

researchers are required to be proficient in Finnish or Swedish. They

must also have at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in the

other of these two languages. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish

citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish

may be exempted from this requirement without a separate

application.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for

teaching and research personnel in the salary system of the Finnish

universities. In addition, the appointees will be paid a salary

component based on personal performance. There is a four-month

trial period for the position.

 Aux sociétés, associations et instituts membres de la Fisp. Chères et chers collègues, Comme vous le savez, le 24e Congrès mondial de philosophie se

déroulera à Pékin, en République Populaire de Chine, du 13 au 20 août

2018. Permettez-moi de partager avec vous, à ce stade de la la

préparation du Congrès, quelques informations importantes -- et

j'espère utiles.

1. Ouverture des inscriptions. Il est désormais

possible de s'inscrire au Congrès via le site

m. Cette page web permet également de

proposer une communication pour l'une des

99 sections dans lesquelles s'articule le

Congrès : les modalités de cette démarche,

qui est ouverte à tous, sont détaillées sur ce même site. D'autres

informations utiles concernant le Congrès (logistique, hébergement,

informations locales) y sont régulièrement publiées. N'hésitez pas à

vous adresser au secrétariat sur place

toute question éventuelle.

2. Séances plénières. Le programme des séances plénières, des

symposia et des séances sur invitation peut être consulté en ligne. À cet

égard, je tiens à remercier celles et ceux qui, lors des consultations que

nous avons réalisées au sein de la Fisp, ont proposé de possibles

participant(e)s. Toutes les propositions n'ont pas pu être retenues :

mais toutes ont été fort appréciées. Merci.

3. Tables rondes. Toute proposition de table ronde est bienvenue.

Veuillez écrire à cet effet soit à moi-même, soit au Professeur Stelios

Virvidakis, de l'université d'Athènes (svirvid@phs.uoa.gr), qui a

accepté de regrouper l'ensemble de ces propositions. Puis-je vous

rappeler que, selon les règles du Congrès, chaque table ronde doit

réunir des participant(e)s provenant de trois pays différents ; que les

créneaux horaires seront de 1h50 par séance ; et qu'aucune limite n'est

posée au nombre de tables rondes que l'on peut proposer. Une

commémoration des 70 ans de la Fisp aura lieu, par ailleurs, durant le

Congrès : elle a été confiée aux bons soins du Professeur Evandro

Agazzi, Président honoraire de la Fisp : vous pouvez le contacter à tout

4. Séances d'étudiant(e)s. Le Comité exécutif du Congrès souhaite

attribuer une importance accrue aux séances d'étudiant(e)s. Ces

séances s'adressent en priorité, mais pas exclusivement, auxdoctorant(e)s des différents pays ; elles les réuniront autour de savantsreconnus à l'échelle internationale, avec qui elles/ils pourront seconfronter et débattre des thèmes de leurs travaux. La durée de cesséances est fixée à 1h50 et des facilitations en termes d'hébergementsur place sont à l'étude du Comité organisateur du Congrès. Elles forment unvolet essentiel du Congrès : des espaces appropriés seront donc mis àleur disposition. Je centralise désormais toute démarche concernantces séances : n'hésitez pas à m'écrire pour toute demande ouexplication éventuelle. Permettez-moi de rappeler, pour les nouveauxmembres de la Fisp en particulier, que ces séances ne comportentaucun coût additionnel pour nos sociétés. En revanche, il convientd'introduire toute requête dans les meilleurs délais car, même enChine, le nombre de salles disponibles n'est pas infini. 6. Site web de la Fisp.
