    4 MINI FOOTBALL WITH HANDICAP

%fter each goal, the scoring team loses a player and must play until the net goalwith one player less than the other team -( vs" )." /n case the team of ) playersscores, then the “epulsed” player returns to play, while the scoring team loses aplayer -) vs" (." #he obective is to score despite being in inferiority of numberswhat allows the scoring team to win one point" %fter it, the game is restarted with )players in each team" #he competition is over when one team manages to collect

    three points"

Why do we play Mini Football with a handicap? So that you learn how to adjust to different game situations and how tocontinuously read the game. Initially you play 3 v 3, then 2 v 3 or 3 v 2 or even 1 v 3 or 3 v 1.

Variation :8uring the attac$ing move at least one aerial pass must be played in order to drawthe attention to the importance of the s$ill of receiving and controlling aerialpasses"

    Variation :

% goal is only valid if all attac$ers are at that moment in the defending team7s half"#his encourages all ) players to attac$ as a compact unit"

Variation *:% goal is only valid if one of ) attac$ers is at that moment in his own half of thefield, thus maintaining a good balance between attac$ and defence" #his coveringdefender is then in a position to slow down an opposing counterattac$ in case thathis team loses ball possession"

    ! MINI FOOTBALL WITH GOAL"SHOTS

% Mini Football Field is established in thecentre of the Football *9 field" &nce oneteam of three players manages to dribblethe ball across the less defended *2m*widecone goal the same players within ) secondshas to carry out a shot on the Football*9 goal

which is defended by a neutral goal$eeper"#he goal -m (m. is at a distance of 1)

successful" %fter having recovered ball possession, the defender has to pass it to ateam*mate in order to ac!uire the right to go in attac$"+ow does the positional play of the oal!eeper in front of the 2 oalsinfluence the build&up play of the # attac!ers? ,i"e exa$ples for thedifferent positions of the oal!eeper in front of the 2 oals-

)he players should attac% the goal furthest away from the goal%eeper prefera!ly

using a long through pass". +hen the !all is in the oppositions half, thegoal%eeper o!serves the play from a position midway !etween the 2 goals, so thathe can uic%ly defend the goal that is attac%ed.

    1# TREE TIMES $ONE AGAINST ONE%

ach of the three players of one Mini Football team faces a player of similar

performance level of the opponent in a 1*on*1*game" #he three duels are playedsimultaneously with the three couples initially sufficiently separated from each other

are over another players ta$e over whilst the first rest" %fter + continuous ballpossessions of one player both teams have to switch functions and the attac$ersare becoming now defenders" %fter each trial of duels the coach announces theactual score" 4ins the team which after 12 attac$s have scored more often"

    &Which are the $ost co$$on $ista!es of the attac!er in a 1&on&1&situation?

    - )o dri!!le the !all directly to the defender instead of forcing the defender tomove

out of his position.- )o enter into the range of action of the defender.- )o forget to use the change of speed and direction as important weapons to

overcome the defender.- )o dri!!le the !all too close or too far away from the feet.

-What actually the attacker should do to win the duel against thedefender?

    - (un diagonally towards the less defended goal and once the defender follows him,  change the direction

and penetrate in the space of the opposite, created !y your diagonal dri!!le.- Its important to move the defender towards one side and then with an eplosivechange of direction andspeed or selling him a dummy get away from him.

-What are the recommendation for a successful defence? - /ever defend in a frontal position. )ry to assume a !alanced side-on0position and   channel your attac%er

11 THROUGH PASSING OUT OF THE MIDFIELD TO A FRONT"RUNNER

ach team positions a stri$er -front runner. in front of the opponent7s goals inside

the shooting 'one" #he stri$er epects to receive an accurate through pass from

one of his ( team*mates, who first are not allowed to leave the midfield" #he stri$ercontrols the ball -ideally in a side*on position which allows him to see the goals and

the passer at the same time. and then shoots at one of the goals"%s the attac$ing players s$ills become more proficient, the coach can not only as$the stri$er to receive the ball in a side*on position but also the midfield players touse different passing techni!ues with the right or left foot"

When is the best $o$ent to play a throuh pass?Immediately after winning the !all, !efore the opposing team has time to regroupdefensively.

What are the re.uire$ents for a successful throuh pass?)he passer and the receiver should have a visual agreement eye contact" so that

there is an understanding !etween them. )he receiver should always receive andcontrol the !all standing side-on to the goals which allows him to see what is going

    on !ehind him.

/s it better to pass alon the round or in the air? Why?'assing along the ground is !etter, !ecause high passes complicate the play andslow it down. *igh passes result in more mista%es.

    Variation 1:

#o improve receiving and controlling the ball, the ball has to be passed through theair to the stri$er"

Variation 2:#he midfielders of both teams can only enter the shooting 'one after the ball has

been passed into it" #his forces the stri$er to receive, to control and to orientate theball versus a space, where there is no opponent"

Variation #:#he stri$er is not allowed to score" #his means that one of his ( midfielders must

!uic$ly offer himself up*field in the shooting area where he receives the ball fromthe stri$er and then scores"

What do we ha"e to do to score a oal?ne of the 2 midfielders must ma%e a forward run into the shooting $one and callfor the !all.

    7/16

Which of the 2 $idfielders should $a!e the forward run?sually this will !e the player who is closest to the stri%er. In some game situationsa switch of flan%s is !etter, !ecause the midfielder who is furthest away then has afree run at the goal.

Why do the 2 $idfielders not both $a!e forward runs?

If the defenders win the !all, they will !e a!le to counterattac%, !ecause no one iscovering in midfield..

Variation 3 #he Mini game is now played with teams formed by ; players" #hefront*runner offers himself outside of the Mini field behind one of the two cone

goals in order to receive in a side*on position a through*pass from one of his threemidfielders"

Variation : %s in variation ;0 #hree midfield players try to pass the ball out of themidfield through one of the two cone goals on the opposing end*line" Both goals aredefended by the fourth opponent who besides initiating the attac$s remains

eclusively inside the shooting 'one in order to be able to anticipate and interceptthrough*passes through any of the two cone goals.

12 ATTAC&ING THE DIAGONALLY OPPOSED GOALS

ach team attac$s two diagonally opposed goals and defends the two other goals" %goal is scored by shooting into one of the ( goals from inside the shooting 'one or

by dribbling the ball across one of the ( cone goals"

Which of the 2 oals is the best one to attac!?

)he players should attac% the goal that is defended !y only 1 defender. )o do so,they should create a 2 against 1 situation and eploit this successfully to score.

+ow should the attac! be carried out (by runnin with the ball or passin)?

-'asses ma%e the game faster and ena!le free space to !e used moreeffectively.-reuent changes of direction when running with the !all may create more spaceand cause the defender to ma%e a wrong decision or a positional error.

+ow can the attac!er create a situation in which his tea$ has a nu$ericalad"antae?4y changing direction when running with the !all and then switching the play.

Variation:#he coach and his assistant -or player. change by sudden the colour of the conegoals, what should be done simultaneously" % goal is scored only by dribbling theball across the cone goal which colour has been indicated beforehand"

Modifying during the development of the game the colour of the goals helps to

improve the perceptive s$ills of all players involved, as they have to have in theirfield of vision all the ; goals as well as “reading” what is happening on the field"

13 CHOOSE ANY OF THE 4 GOALS

#he ) attac$ers always attac$ the goalthat they consider to be the less defended one"

one" #he coach can specify whether a goal hasshould be scored by shooting from insidethe shooting 'one or by dribbling the ball

across any cone goal - meters wide." Variation 1:% goal only counts if the nearest defenderis at least + meters away when the ball isdribbled across the goal line"

Variation 2:% team of ) players has 10 ball possessions with the other team defending the ;goals" %n attac$ starts always from the centre and finishes when a goal is scored,

the ball goes out of play or when a defender gains possession of the ball"#he defenders have to position themselves intelligently to prevent the attac$ers

from scoring" #he obective of the game is to teach the attac$ers to use the spacewith intelligent passing and to avoid ta$ing ris$s what would allow them to score 10times with 10 ball possessions"

Variation #:#he ; goals can be positioned anywhere on the end*lines or sidelines of the Minifield"

+ow can / disuise the direction of $y attac!?irst of all !y running in another direction to fool your opponent. 5ou can then

accelerate and change direction to leave your opponent !ehind or ta%e the !all past him.

What does the attac!er with the ball ha"e to pay attention to?*e needs to ta%e his eyes off the !all head up, peripheral vision", so that he cansee what the defenders are doing in front of the goals and what his 2 team-matesare doing, so that he can employ the right tactics..

“COACHING IS A DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, WITH TASKS

WHICH BECOME STEADILY MORE DIFFICULT FROM WEEK TO WEEK,

MONTH TO MONTH AND YEAR TO YEAR

BUT WHICH NEVER MAKE DEMANDS THAT EXCEED

THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CAPABILITIES OF THE PLAYERS.”

14 MODIFY THE POSITION OF THE 4 MINI GOALS

#his game is a miture between the game 1( and the official game of Mini Football"

Behind each end*line of the Mini field a substitutes is positioned with the function tomodify every two minutes simultaneously with his partner on the opposite side thecolour of the goals" 4hen the official game of Mini Football should be played bothteams are attac$ing the left or right goal on the opposite end*line" But in case the

coach orders suddenly the substitutes to modify the colour of the right -and later ononly the left. goal whilst the colour of the other goal remains the same the official

game of Mini Football becomes a Mini football game on two diagonally opposedgoals"

#hrough continuous changing of the colours of the goals all players are obliged toperceive and analyse the game situations and act accordingly as it may happen alsoin the competitive football game"

Variation 13#he goals can also be placed

    a. on the side*lines,b. in the corners of the Mini Field or

    c. on the m*line of the shooting 'one in order to practise precise bac$*passing-scoring. from the end*line into the field""

Which are the obecti"es of this a$e in defence?

    * )he first o!jective of this game is that the three defenders should discoverin the 6 individual attac%s that there is a need to wor% together as a team inorder to avoid the success of the only attac%er.

    * )he second one is the need of communicating !etween each other toimprove mutual support and colla!oration.

Which are the obecti"es of this a$e in attac!?* )he attac%er should learn to dri!!le the !all in an upright position which

allows him to discover where the space is or his penetration dri!!le.* nce the space has !een closed !y one defender he should uic%ly change

speed and direction in order to go the unmar%ed $one of the field and thenscore.

%fter scoring a goal with dribbling the ball across any of the m*wide cone goals,

#he team that manages to score within 10 minutes the highest number ofsuccessive goals is declared winner" #his variation is especially good for improvingthe players7 concentration"

What do we learn when we ha"e to attac! the oal at the opposite endi$$ediately after scorin a oal?

-5ou learn how to adjust uic%ly to a new situation and how to play the !all uic%lyout of a crowded $one into space to give your team more time and space to createa scoring chance.-5ou learn how to control the pace of the play you can speed up the play or slow it

down the flan$s, and to give width to their attac$s" #wo *meter wide goals areformed halfway down the field by placing cones near the sidelines" #he attac$ers

should not start the build*up in the centre -danger of counterattac$ if possession islost. but must attac$, using the wings" % goal is only valid if the attac$ has been

launched with a dribble or pass of the ball through one of the two cone goals in thecentre of the field"

1! MINI FOOTBALL WITH THROUGH PASSES THROUGH

When should the stri!er run into position to recei"e the pass?

4hen he sees that a midfielder of his team lift his head to loo$ out for him with theintention to play a through pass -visual agreement before eecuting the pass." >e

then runs behind the goal to offer himself for a pass"

When the ideal $o$ent arises for playin a throuh?/mmediately after having con!uered the ball from the opponent there is generally agood opportunity to eecute a through pass because of the availability of space"

    1) DISGUISING AND INTERCEPTING THROUGH PASSES

    13/16

&+ow a defender $ay achie"e to force the opponent to attac! in his desired%one of the field?

-4efore attac%ing the !all he assumes a side-on position !esides the !all carrier.)hrough this position he o!liges the attac%er to dri!!le the !all into this unoccupied
