O Festival de Órgão da Madeira apresenta em 2017 uma programação singular que se manifesta desde logo no concerto de abertura, onde Stephen Tharp dá a conhecer obras de compositores americanos e europeus. William Whitehead apresenta uma seleção do ‘Orgelbüchlein Project’ (uma iniciativa que junta a obra de Bach à produção de compositores contemporâneos), Jan Willem Jansen e António Plácido exploram a ligação entre órgão e literatura e Karol Mossakowski improvisará a banda sonora do filme ‘La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc’ de Carl Dreyer. Para além destas manifestações menos comuns, recitais temáticos abordarão a música italiana e ibérica e a tradição inglesa. A presença incontornável de Johann Sebastian Bach será assegurada por Jan Willem Jansen, num concerto com a Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, e o compositor português Manuel Rodrigues Coelho será a figura central do concerto de encerramento, com o jovem organista André Ferreira e o Ensemble São Tomás de Aquino. acclaimed as a masterpiece of film-making, since its premiere in 1928, ‘la passion de jeanne d’arc’ was the first film expressly dedicated to the life of a saint. commissioned by the société Générale des Films and directed by carl Dreyer, this silent movie has inspired several organ improvisations. in the tradition of the French organ school, the young organist Karol Mossakowski will improvise live the film’s soundtrack.

o órgão da igreja matriz de Machico é um dos mais pre-ciosos instrumentos históricos da Madeira. construído na pri-meira metade do século Xviii, representa a tradição ibérica e algumas influências italia-nas que se fizeram sentir em portugal a partir do início de setecentos. Francesco di lernia explora esta dupla vertente do instrumento através de um pro-grama ibero-italiano abrangendo os séculos Xvi, Xvii e Xviii.
The organ of the church of Machico is one of the most precious historic instruments of Madeira. Built in the first half of the eighteenth century, it represents the iberian tradition along with some italian influences that were
felt in portugal in the early 1700s. Francesco di lernia explores this dou-ble feature of the instrument through an iberian-italian programme cover-ing the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

The ‘orgelbüchlein project’s goal is to complete Bach’s original project – the ‘orgelbüchlein’ – involving several composers, whose works may cover a wide variety of music styles.
