The construction work for the Panama Subway Line 1 began in April of 2011 and will receive investments of US$ 1.6 billion

> FINANCIAL STRUCTURING

Odebrecht Supports Development of New Financing Structures

A participant of the Línea

Uno Consortium, responsible

for building Line 1 of the

Panama subway, Odebrecht

América Latina also helped

develop the financial

structuring to make the

project feasible. Through

a new type of guarantee,

the Multilateral Investment

Guarantee Agency (MIGA)

– the entity dedicated to

sovereign risk insurance

belonging to the World Bank

group – is supporting the

Panamanian Government’s

efforts to finance the largest

urban transport project in

the country’s capital.

On June 30 of this

year, the agency issued

a guarantee of US$ 320

million, with a 12-year

term, which made the US$

250-million loan possible,

granted by Citibank, and

which also covers the

financing interest. Citibank

is the leading bank in the

operation, which also has

the participation of Bank

of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and

Mizuho Corporate Bank.

“The development of new

guarantee structures that

make long term financing

operations possible is

crucial for us to better

serve our clients,” said

Vinício Fonseca, responsible

Page 5: ON 288 en

for Structured Financing

at Odebrecht América

Latina. “We are honored to

contribute, together with

Citibank and MIGA, toward

this pioneering project in

Panama,” said Fonseca.

The new financial

structuring is considered

first-of-its-kind for projects

in Latin America and

the Caribbean. “It is the

first time that MIGA has

issued a guarantee of this

type for a project in Latin

America, which represents

yet another alternative for

making new investments

possible, both from clients

as well as Odebrecht itself,”

revealed Fonseca.

According to him, the

process began in March

2011 and MIGA examined

several points for issuing

the guarantee, such as the

project’s social-economic

and environmental

benefits for Panama. “The

agency also analyzed

the engineering and

construction methodology,

attesting to Odebrecht’s

Page 6: ON 288 en

capacity for completing

subway construction

projects,” he said.

Izumi Kobayashi, Vice

President of MIGA, stated

that the priority is for the

agency to cooperate with

projects that have large and

complex infrastructure. “We

are very pleased to be able

to support a development

that will serve residents

and tourists in Panama,

contributing toward a more

sustainable environment,”

said Kobayashi.

Line 1 of the Panamanian

subway is considered

the government’s most

important project after

the expansion of the

Inter-Oceanic Channel

and will allow for a more

sustainable transport

system for the country’s

capital. Extending 13.7 km

and with 13 stations, the

line will cover the North-

South axis of the city and

will serve an estimated

15,000 passengers per

hour, with estimated travel

time of 23 minutes.

> OIL AND GAS

The Baptism of the First OOG FPSO

The City of Itajaí FPSO has the capacity to produce 80,000 barrels of oil per day and will operate in a water depth of 270 to 1,000 meters

Page 9: ON 288 en

On July 21, Odebrecht

Oil and Gas (OOG)

promoted a baptism

ceremony in Singapore

for the City of Itajaí FPSO

(Floating Production

Storage and Offloading),

the company’s first

floating oil production

unit. The ceremony

marked the start of OOG’s

operations in the market

of chartering and the

operation of these units

in Brazil.

The event included the

presence of Members of

Teekay Petrojarl and OOG

– which together form

the joint venture that

will operate the unit – as

well as representatives

of Petrobras and the

shipyard Jurong,

responsible for building

the FPSO.

The baptism ceremony

of a ship or platform

is one of the most

emblematic moments

of its construction.

On the occasion, the

“godmother” of the

Cidade de Itajaí FPSO,

Liss Marian Myklebostad,

wife of Arvid Skaar,

Project Manager, broke

the traditional bottle of

champagne on the ship’s

hull to bless the vessel

and its crew.

The Cidade de Itajaí

FPSO is set to depart still

in August, with estimated

arrival to Brazil in October

of this year. The unit will

operate in the Southern

portion of Santos Basin,

located along São Paulo’s

coast near the coast of

Santa Catarina, in the

Baúna and Piracabas

fields.

For the operation, the

joint venture structured

a base in Itajaí which,

in addition to other

activities, will support

the logistics of materials

and people for boarding.

According to Rodrigo

Lemos, FPSO Contract

Director in Brazil, the

idea is to build a closer

relationship with the

client. “Petrobras has

been developing the

concept of Integrated

Operations Management,

designed to boost

operational safety and

efficiency and reduce

costs,” explained Lemos.

According to him, 95% of

the crew members have

already been contracted.

The City of Itajaí FPSO

has the capacity to

produce 80,000 barrels

of oil per day and will

operate in a water depth

of 270 meters. The vessel

is also prepared to work

in a water depth of up to

1,000 meters.

Lemos stated that, for

Petrobras, City of Itajaí is

a FPSO of opportunity:

“If for some reason the

production in the fields

of Baúna and Piracaba

is reduced, the unit can

easily be transferred to

another site,” he said.

“Considering the latest

information on the

reserves in these fields

and the nearby ones, it is

estimated that the unit

will remain in the region

during the entire contract

term, which is nine years,

and renewable for six

more.”

The Contract Director

also emphasized the

Members’ work on the

project, from winning

the bidding to the

baptism ceremony. “We

will end the conversion

of City of Itajaí on a

high note with a major

emphasis on Health,

Environment and Safety.

I would like to thank all

of those involved for

their dedication, from

the financing to the

conversion and finally,

the baptism.” He further

stated: “We need to

maintain the focus and

pace of the work to

guarantee that the unit

can leave the shipyard

without any pending

issues and ensure that

it is approved to begin

operating as quickly as

possible after its arrival to

Brazil.”

The Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire – an

Odebrecht TransPort company responsible for

the administration of the Dom Pedro Corridor in

rural São Paulo – began the second phase of the

duplication work on the Engenheiro Constâncio

Cintra (SP-360) Highway, which connects Itatiba

to Jundiaí. The project is advancing to the stretch

between Kms 68 and 70 and also includes the

remodeling of the Caxambu Clover.

During the first phase, delivered in March of this

year, the concessionaire duplicated 1.8 km of lanes,

between Km 81+500 and KM 83+300, the urban

stretch of Itatiba. In addition to the construction of

a new stretch, the project included the creation of a

bicycle lane and the reformulation of the sidewalks

for pedestrians.

The Rota das Bandeiras investment plan

includes resources of R$ 98.4 million to duplicate

the SP-360, which will receive a series of

improvements designed to enhance users’ comfort

and safety, such as the complete remodeling of

the circulation within the Louveira Clover and the

construction of a lower passageway at Km 70.1, as

well as a walkway at Km 72.1 of the highway.

Along the stretch between Km 68 and Km 70,

the construction work began with earth leveling

services. After preparing the terrain, a drainage

system will be installed, and then the paving of the

new lane will begin. Finally, a sign system will be

installed for the site, with plaques and painting of

the ground. On the Caxambu Clover, a second team

works to build two new access viaducts that will

facilitate access from Jundaí to the neighborhood

of Caxambu.

In rural São Paulo, the number of

accidents involving motorcyclists along

the Dom Pedro Corridor dropped 12.8%

during the first half of 2012, compared

to the same period last year. According

to the survey conducted by the Rota das

Bandeiras Concessionaire, a total of 252

incidents were recorded during the first

six months of this year, compared to 289 in

2011.

To help reduce the rate even further,

Rota das Bandeiras took advantage of

Motorcyclist Day on July 27 to promote

a new edition of “Smart Stop.” The event

occurred in Paulínia, on July 26 and 27,

at Km 132 of the Professor Zeferino Vaz

Highway (SP-332), and featured a series

of services offered free of charge to the

motorcyclists.

The participants were able to perform

a complete inspection of their machines.

The safety items checked included the

operation of the back and front brakes and

lights, as well as the motor oil.

“Rota das Bandeiras has constantly

undertaken awareness raising campaigns,

because it believes that they are important

for achieving a significant reduction in

accidents,” said Adherbal Vieira da Silva,

responsible for Social Responsibility at the

concessionaire. “The drop in the number

of incidents involving motorcyclists

reinforces our conviction of believing in

the users of our roads,” said Silva.

Pleasant conversation

brimming with the memories

of important moments in

the history of soccer in Brazil,

and primarily the 1970 World

Cup. This is how former player

Carlos Alberto Torres marked

his presence during “Breakfast

at the site for the Maracanã

Stadium remodeling work.

The meeting involved the

participation of Members and

leaders from the Maracanã Rio

Gutierrez).

“Capita,” as he became

known after the victory of the

global three-time championship

in 1970, remembered his career

in soccer, from his time at the

Santos Soccer Club to the

Brazilian National Team. Carlos

Alberto drew a name for a

jersey from the 1970 World Cup

among the 15 Members who

participated in the meeting. The

winner was bricklayer Francisco

José dos Santos Souza: “I was

The coach of the São Paulo

Corinthians Sports Club, better

known as Tite, fulfilled a promise

that he had made in March

of this year: if the team won

the “Liberators of America”

Cup, he would work for a day

on the Corinthians Arena

construction project, currently

being undertaken by Odebrecht

Infraestrutura, in São Paulo’s

Eastern Zone.

After the team won its first

championship title on July 27, Tite

went to the construction site of

the arena that will host the 2014

World Cup, wore the same blue

uniform as the Members, and put

on his boots and helmet.

Before beginning his work at

the construction site, the soccer

coach visited a group of youth,

children of the workers, who

were participating in the program

“A Day of Leisure with My Child

received by the children, gave

autographs and posed for photos.

Tite then went to the

Prompted by the hunger

for knowledge, Rosimare

(CFR-PTN) last year. Located

in the Bahia Southern

Beira Rio, located in the

municipality of Teolândia.

“At the Home, I found the

opportunity I needed. I

wouldn’t like to have to

leave my region in search

first steps were taken on

August 2, 2002, when rural

community associations

from the municipality

of Presidente Tancredo

planted with the hope that

the children of the farmers,

driven by their desire to

stay in their native land,

would organize to fight

for quality education that

met their needs and that

said Juscelino Macedo,

Leader of the Manioc Root

Alliance. In addition to

CFR-PTN, the alliance also

includes the Presidente

Producers’ Cooperative

(COOPATAN). Both are part

of the Bahia Southern

Lowlands Environmental

Protection Area Mosaic

Program for Development

and Growth Integrated

with Sustainability

(PDCIS), supported by the

Odebrecht Foundation.

João Neto, age 25, was a

student of the first group.

He began the course in

2003 and learned about

rural administration,

cooperativism, soil

management, irrigation,

drainage, as well as several

different cultivation

methods – techniques

that helped him develop

his crops without

environmental impacts.

He is currently completing

the university-level course

in Business Administration

and is responsible for the

COOPATAN Sales Sector,

besides his own activities

as a farmer. “I am a rural

entrepreneur,” said Neto.

“I want to maintain my

connection with the rural

region and always seek out

new knowledge, since we

can never learn enough,” he

said.

10 years, the Family Home

has been working together

with the cooperative,

offering education focused

on the reality of the rural

region and on improving

the income earned,” said

Juscelino Macedo. “We

are promoting significant

changes in our region,” he

said.

In 2009, CFR-PTN was

authorized by the State

Board of Education to

administer the technical

high school course,

becoming the first entity

with this type of approval

in Brazil’s North/Northeast

region. Previously,

those who completed

the training received a

professional qualification

certificate. “The Home

guarantees access to

formal and professional

education, important for

the development of young

farmers so that they can

act as citizens and as rural

entrepreneurs committed to

sustainability,” said Osvaldo

Barreto, Bahia’s Secretary of

Education.

During the 10-year

history of CFR-PTN,

Rosimare Santos, João

Neto and Lucas Santos

are a few of the 250

rural entrepreneurs

that completed or are

CONSOLIDATES TRUST

Throughout the course

of its history, CFR-PTN

has worked together with

COOPATAN to establish

a series of partnerships.

Whether financial, political

or technical, the support

has helped improve the

teaching unit’s actions.

The first of them began to

be constructed in August

2003, with the Brazilian

Agricultural Research

Company (EMBRAPA).

With the support of

the Bahia Department

of Agriculture, EMBRAPA

installed a Demonstrative

Field of Technologies for

Manioc Root Cultivation.

“By educating the

youth and introducing

new technologies, the

agriculture in the region

made some important

“It is extremely gratifying

to lead a project that I

helped build,” said Fernanda

Silva, the Production and

Technological Innovation

Director of the Home, who

was also a student of the

teaching unit’s first group

who graduated in 2006. “I

know that we will reach a

future focused on education

for life, through work and

with orientations on values.

I still remember our first

day of class. Today, after

10 years, I continue to help

write this story,” said Silva.

“My greatest link with

CFR-PTN is not restricted to

its structuring, but rather

the possibility for us to

consolidate a teaching unit

focused on rural education,”

said Joana Almeida,

Educational Advisor for

the Odebrecht Foundation,

who also served as

educational coordinator

at CFR-PTN from 2003 to

2007 and still accompanies

the team of educators at

the Home. “This was the

dream of many young

farmers. Making it come

true was not easy, but

the involvement of the

families made a difference.

As the years went by, we

only realized that this

was a victorious initiative,

one consolidated when

we obtained, in 2009, the

State Board of Education’s

authorization to administer

the Professional Technical

Almeida.

“Seeing to Home

me very happy,” said Clovis

Director of the Home in

2005 and 2006. “I was

able to contribute, just

like so many others,

to strengthening the

institution, which became a

reference for Brazil. “There

is no rural education and

development institution

in the country that is

capable of doing what CFR-

PTN does. The institution

became a beautiful

example,” said Faleiro.

opportunity to discuss the dreams and expectations of those who have

such distinct realities and think about the future based on a single culture:

Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology.

“They leave this meeting as new friends, colleagues with different stories, but

with the same ideal: to exercise productive leadership within their contexts and

make the world a better place to live,” said Olindina Dominguez, responsible

In July, the magazine Imprensa disclosed

the fifth edition of the ranking “The Most

Sustainable Companies According to the Media,”

elaborated annually by the publication. In the

overall ranking, which included 800 companies,

Braskem came in at 42nd and Odebrecht came

in at 193rd place.

In the listing by sector, classified into

Construction and Chemical and Petrochemical,

the companies ranked 3rd place. Odebrecht also

came in at 3rd place in the ranking by topic in the

category of Transparency.

In order to elaborate the list, there was an

analysis of the news stories published in all

2011 editions of the magazines Época, Época

Negócios, Exame, IstoÉ, IstoÉ Dinheiro, Veja, Carta

Capital, Amanhã and AméricaEconomia as well as

the daily newspapers Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado

de S. Paulo and O Globo.

The survey indicated the companies that

received positive news coverage for their

sustainable practices and actions. The survey was

designed to reveal those companies that best

develop their image among opinion shapers.

On July 17, the Transparency Trophy

revealed the list of the 20 Brazilian companies

recognized as the most transparent in 2012.

Braskem was included in the list of the

publicly traded companies with earnings

of over R$ 5 billion, which included SABESP,

CEMIG, CSN - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional,

EMBRAER, Gerdau, Natura Cosméticos,

Petrobras, Usiminas and Vale.

The selection, which was made using the

statements disclosed last year, analyzed some

2,000 companies, divided among publicly

traded and private ones, from the sectors of

commerce, industry and services (except for

financial companies) in Brazil. Promoted by the

On July 26, Odebrecht confirmed the

maintenance of the Quality Management

certificate under the ISO 9.001-2008 Standard

through the audit conducted at the construction

site of the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power

Plant, an Odebrecht Energia investment

located in Rondônia. The project was selected to

represent the company’s operations in the energy

sector.

The certifying agency Bureau Veritas

Certification (BVC) audited the civil construction

work processes, which fall under the responsibility

of the Santo Antônio Civil Consortium (CSAC), as

well as the assembly work, being undertaken by

Odebrecht. The focus was to assess the quality

of the project, which also included the areas of

Environment and Workplace Safety.

Antônio Sérgio Barbin, Quality Manager at

CSAC, commented on the results: “The audit

process guaranteed us the certification and

brought us some new learning,” he said. “It

represents a source of motivation for us, since

we have a system that works well. This gives us

an edge, considering that our objective is to

grow, develop and differentiate.” According to

Mical Muniz, Quality Manager for the assembly

work, complying with the ISO 9.001 standard

is the result of lasting and integrated work

with the development’s different sectors. “Our

teams structured their activities and became

involved with the processes for us to maintain the

certification,” he said.

In the search for sustainable

practices for preserving the

environment and its natural

resources, the Santo Antônio

Hydroelectric Power Plant

developed a new water reuse

system: separator of water and

oil within a closed cycle.

The structure was created

to treat the water used to wash

trucks and equipment on the

construction site’s Washing and

Lubrication Ramp. With the

new system, the project saves

one million liters of water per

month.

The ramp is the site with the

highest rate of oily effluents

at the construction project.

With the previous process, the

water mixed with oil and grease

was treated, meeting the legal

standards for the release of

effluents into the environment,

and discarded into the receiving

body of water. With the creation

of the Water and Oil Separator

within a closed cycle, the

previously existing structure

gained modern treatment

resources, allowing for the

reuse of water. Nelson Alves,

Santo Antônio HPP Launches New System for Reusing Water

Together, the water treatment structures installed at the project allow for the 12.5% reuse of the resource collected at the construction site

Environment and Workplace

Safety Manager, explained:

“We decided to do more than

required by law. We treat the

effluent and we reuse it, ceasing

from releasing it into the

environment and preserving

natural resources.”

The products chosen for

the water treatment were the

Polymer and Organic Veta

(extracted from the bark of the

Black Cassia tree), the same

used in the Industrial Water

Treatment Plants. The former

structure received a water

mixer, decantation box, made

with gravel (to retain the solid

substances) and a filter with

two passageways, made from

charcoal (to eliminate odors).

After the process has been

completed, the water is ready

to be used once again. With the

use of pumps, it continues on

to the washing reservoir on the

Ramp.

For Nelson Alves, the new

system is sustainable, since

it brings environmental and

economic benefits. “It benefits

the environment and helps

generate savings for the

company,” said Alves.

How many times to you travel by airplane on

average per year? What is the fuel used in your

vehicle? Do you separate the waste that can

be recycled? The answers to these and other

questions will define the number of trees that

need to be planted to neutralize your carbon

emissions into the environment. The calculation

can be performed at the website of the Land

Conservation Organization (OCT) – an institution

associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands

Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program

for Development and Growth Integrated

with Sustainability (PDCIS), supported by the

Odebrecht Foundation.

The result is displayed in numbers of trees and

values, in Brazilian reais, of the planting. In this way,

it is possible to decide to perform the action or fund

the service so that OCT performs the same. The

initiative, called Payment Program for Environmental

Services – Carbon, is also known as Pratigi CO2

OCT promotes the reforestation of the Pratigi

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul,

Alagoas and Bahia.

The Cultural Horizon Project was developed

by journalists and specialized educators. The

material contains six editions of the magazine

Horizonte Geográfico, two posters with the

message “Attitudes at Home” and the Reading

Incentive Guide, which addresses topics such

as conscious consumption and packaging in

people’s daily lives.

In August, teachers from the Rio de Janeiro

public school network will be trained during

on-site meetings. It is expected that five groups

with 30 teachers each will be trained. The

events will be elaborated with a social-cultural

focus on the topic of “Conscious Consumption”

and will use literary and informative texts to

promote debates and reflection.

The students from the winning schools of

the “A New Look at Plastic” Project, promoted

by the Akatu Institute and Braskem, had the

opportunity to visit the Triunfo Petrochemical

Center in Rio Grande do Sul during a visit held on

July 10.

The group toured the company’s units in the

state, visited the Environmental Station and a

screening unit in Dois Irmãos, where it observed

the separation of the garbage and processing

of the plastics in practice. The students then

visited the plastic wood production unit that uses

recycled raw material from Acinplas in Estância

Velha.

The big winner of the project was the Luiza

Nunes Bezerra State School from Juara, Mato

Grosso, with the projects “Environmental

Education – Our Hands Can Save the Planet” and

“Garbage Transformed into Art,” which involved

200 students. Among the proposed initiatives

are the promotion of an ecological evening with

the presentation of a play, puppets, parodies

and an exhibit for the community and creation

of paintings made from recycled materials,

addressing topics related to the environment,

citizenship and conscious consumption.

The “A New Look at Plastic” Project reinforced

the importance of topics associated with

conscious consumption and sustainability among

educators and students from public and private

schools in Brazil. The initiative was designed to

encourage them to propose solutions to current

problems, such as the choice of what to consume,

the differences in the production chains, the

inappropriate disposal of wastes and prevention

of water and energy waste. The project reached

more than 1,500 schools selected from the Faça

Parte (“Become Part”) Institute network.

Giroflex-forma, leader in

the furniture market in Latin

America, launched the first

seats made from plastic of a

renewable origin in Brazil, in

the VIP boxes of the Morumbi

Stadium in São Paulo.

Developed in partnership

with Cromex and Braskem ,

the chairs installed use

polyethylene (PE) originating

from sugarcane ethanol – a

100% renewable material

of high added value and

recyclabil ity.

“ The new feature is the

sustainability involved in the

project design,” said Linaldo

Vilar, New Business Director

at Giroflex-forma. “ This is

because the plastic used in

the seats uses ethanol as its

raw material, a renewable

energy source that replaces

the traditional petroleum-

based compound,” said Vilar.

Over the next three years, the

company plans to invest R$ 6

mill ion in the market of seats

for sports arenas.

Manufactured by Braskem,

the resin from the “sugarcane

seats” is recognized

worldwide for maintaining

the benefits and properties

of traditional plastic and for

being more sustainable. The

differential is its capacity to

help reduce the greenhouse

effect: for each ton produced,

up to 2.5 tons of carbon gas

(CO2) are captured and fixed

from the atmosphere.
