El 28 de julio se inauguró el Parador de Santo Estevo,antiguo monasterio del siglo XII, en la localidad de Nogueira de Ramuín (Ourense). En el magníficoClaustro de Los Obispos del Parador se escuchó un impresionante coro de gaitas gallegas que inundó la presentación con su sonido, mientras se descubría una placa de honor conmemorativa y personalidadescomo Elena Espinosa, ministra de Agricultura, ManuelFraga, presidente de la Xunta, Raimón Martínez Fraile,secretario general de Turismo, y Antoni Costa, presidentede la Red, firmaban en el Libro de Oro. Este nuevoParador hace el número 90 en la Red, y en él se hancombinado el estilo clásico del antiguo monasterio con elementos modernos y obras de grandes artistas.

On July 28th, the Parador de Santo Estevo, a former 12th century monastery, was inaugurated in the town of Nogueira de Ramuín (Ourense). From the Parador’smagnificent cloister known as the Claustro de Los Obispos,an impressive chorus of Galician pipers filled the air withtheir music while the commemorative plaque was unveiledand such VIPs as the Minister for Agriculture, ElenaEspinosa, the President of the Galician RegionalGovernment, Manuel Fraga, the Secretary-General forTourism, Raimón Martínez Fraile, and the President of theParadores chain, Antoni Costa, signed the hotel’s GuestBook. This new Parador is number 90 in the network andcombines the classical style of the old monastery buildingswith modern elements and works by famous artists.

TWO FUTURE PARADORES

Antoni Costa, Presidente de Paradores, visitórecientemente la Granja de San Ildefonso(Segovia) e Ibiza, los enclaves elegidos para situardos de los futuros establecimientos que la Redtiene previstos. El primero, cuyas obras ya seencuentran en marcha y que será inaugurado enel año 2006, tendrá una categoría de 5 estrellas y contará con 127 habitaciones, un Centro de Negocios formado por 15 salones deconvenciones y un SPA, el segundo de la Reddespués del de Vielha. Por su parte el de Ibiza,que todavía está en proyecto, ocupará el castillode la capital de la isla, que data del siglo XVI. Con estas dos visitas, Antoni Costa promociona la importante labor de desarrollo y expansión que está realizando Paradores.

Antoni Costa, the President of Paradores, recently visited La Granja de SanIldefonso in the province of Segovia and Ibiza island, the sites chosen for twoof the forthcoming establishments planned by the Network. The first of theseis already under way and will be open for business in 2006, with no fewerthan 5 stars and a total of 127 bedrooms, a Business Centre comprising 15meeting halls and a spa, the second in the chain following the one opened inVielha. The Parador planned for Ibiza, on the other hand, will occupy the 16thcentury castle standing in the island’s main city. With these two visits, AntoniCosta is promoting the important development and expansion activitiesundertaken by Paradores.

En 2004 su establecimiento de Santiago de Compostela cumple 50 años como hotel y comopunto de referencia en la vida social, cultural y política del lugar.Para festejarlo se han organizado encuentros, conciertos,exposiciones y se inaugurará una nueva iluminación de lafachada. Además, se han presentado un logotipo y un platoconmemorativo llamado ‘Caldeirada dos Reis’, que consiste enun asado de rodaballo, vieira y lubrigante sobre crema de patatagallega y grelos. Todo un derroche de actividad para dar unprotagonismo especial al Parador, que acaba de ser redecorado.

Paradores pushes the boat out. In 2004 its establishment inSantiago de Compostela celebrates its 50th anniversary as ahotel and focal point for the social, cultural and political life of the city. To commemorate it, gatherings, concerts and exhibitionshave been programmed and the façade will be bathed in newlighting. The hotel has presented a logo and created a festivedish called ‘Caldeirada dos Reis’, comprising roast turbot, scallopand lobster on a bed of local potatoes and turnip-tops. Just partof the flurry of activity highlighting the special protagonism of theParador in this Pilgrimage Year following its recent redecoration.

On July 23rd, the Hostal San Marcos in León was the setting for ameeting of Spain’s Council of Ministers. Taking advantage of theoccasion, all of the members of the government enjoyed the recentimprovements introduced at the establishment where 11.6 millioneuros have been spent on redecorating the installations to combinethe old with the new and accentuate its luxury and comfort.
