The Passive Voice

As vozes do verbo estabelecem a relação entre o sujeito e a ação

expressa pelo verbo.

O sujeito pratica ou sofre a ação, isto é, o sujeito é agente ou paciente.

• Quando o sujeito é o agente, temos a VOZ ATIVA( active voice) e, quando o sujeito é o paciente, temos a VOZ PASSIVA(passive voice)

• Shakespeare WROTE Hamlet.• Hamlet was written by Shakespeare.• Suj ag.da passiva

• Somebody built this house in 1960.(Active Voice).Alguém construiu esta casa em 1960.

• This house was built in 1960.(Passive Voice)• Esta casa foi construída em 1960.

Active Voice Passive Voice

Simple Present am/ is / are + particípio

Present Progressive am/ is/ are + particípio

Simple Past was / were + particípio

Past Progressive was / were being + particípio

Simple Future will be + particípio

Be going to am/is/are going to be+ particípio

Present Perfect have / has been + particípio

Past Perfect had been + particípio

Future Perfect will have + been + particípio

• Joe paints the house every year.( O Joe pinta a casa todo ano.)

• The house is painted by Joe every year.( A casa é pintada por Joe todo ano.)
