Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin addresses
guests at the unveiling of the IAI Kfir J79-
powered Mirage derivative. Another aircraft
gave o flying display full details and photo
graphs of the occasion are on pages
666-667.
One report quotes French sources as intimating
that the fuselage is constructed of a new
combination of titanium, steel and aluminium.
If so it wo uld appear that the Kfir is being
manufactured from new rather than using
time-expired or damaged Mirage parts

The Bil l to nationalise the British
airframe industry, which was due
to be published before Easter, may
still appear but it is now unlikely
to become law this year. There is
even speculation in the British air
craft industry that it may not even
be enacted next year. The Chan
cellor of the Exchequ er, Mr Healey,
is not looking for new public ex
penditure, especially 300 million
expected as compen sation in this
case, and he is not a strong sup
porter of Mr Bern's nationalisation
measure s. There is also pressure
from,
trade unions who are becom
ing aware that .300 million spent
on compensating shareholders and
private owners could be used to
finance new aircraft work.
Some general -av iat ion
salesmen in
the United Kingdom are reporting
slow sales so far this year, a situa
tion which they do not expect to
improve following the Chancellor's
budget. On e of the strongest areas,
howeve r, is the training of over
seas pilots. One major private
school is completely booked up,
though there are signs that this
may not be the case in two years'
time.
The future of the Koyal Aero Club
is- noio being considered more in
relation to the Army and Navy
Club rather than to the United Ser
vices Club in its existing superb but
increasingly costly premises in Pall
Mall.
Singapore a.s well as Australia are
considering orders for the Rapier.
Influential people close to the
D-Notice system of achieving
security by voluntary agreeme nt
between the Press and Government
still find Whiteha ll officials who,
when politically embarrassed by a
story, think that a D-Notice can be
slapped on as if it were the
Official Secrets Act.
A Lancaster Mk 10 for the Strath-
allan Collection in Scotland is ex
pected to arrive at Prestwick Air
port en route front the Canad ian
Air Force base at Namatto some
time next month. It will be flown
by Capt P. A. MacK enzie, flight
operations director of British Ca le
donian, with a crew of two. The
aircraft has been bought by Sir
William Roberts from Northwestern
Air Lease of Edmonton.
Fokker-VFW has reserved a
second-
hand F .27 for use as an integration
prototype of a maritime-reco nnais
sance version of the aircraft, which
would compete with the Hawker
Siddeley H S.748 Coastguarder. A
conference of potential equipmen t
suppliers has already been held
Aerospat ia le wi l l have
the twin-
Arriel-powered SA.365 Dauphin at
the Paris Show with demonstration
furnishing an d equipmen t. The
compa ny is not likely to display the
LTS-10l-pow ered SA.366, which is
continuing installation developm ent
flying at Marigna ne.
