“A psicologia da arte pode ser definida como a área da
psicologia que tem como projecto descrever e explicar a
experiência psicológica e os comportamentos relacionados
com a arte, principalmente ao nível da apreciação e da
criação artística, mas também no que concerne à relação
dos artistas com a sua audiência, à execução artística, à
crítica de arte e às próprias obras de arte. Qualquer das
áreas anteriores pode ser perspectivada tanto em termos
de uma psicologia geral da arte, que cobre os aspectos
psicológicos comuns às diferentes artes, como na óptica de
uma psicologia interessada nos elementos psicológicos
específicos a cada uma das artes (por exemplo, uma
psicologia das artes visuais diferencia-se de uma
psicologia da música), ou mesmo específicos aos
diferentes movimentos artísticos. No âmbito da psicologia
da arte podemos ainda apontar uma área interessada nas
aplicações do conhecimento que resulta da investigação
fundamental neste ramo da psicologia, no sentido do
controlo e melhoramento dos processos psicológicos
envolvidos na criação, na apreciação ou no desempenho
da arte, assim como na utilização da arte para alcançar
outros fins (e.g. educacionais, terapêuticos, informativos).
Finalmente, é possível considerar uma área de reflexão
epistemológica sobre a psicologia da arte, que cobre
aspectos como a sua definição, âmbito, importância,
história, correntes e metodologia. (…) Efectivamente, estas
experiências dependem igualmente, em grande medida,
dos processos psicológicos envolvidos tanto na reacção às
obras de arte (e.g. percepções, emoções do espectador)
como na sua criação (e.g. aprendizagem, percepção e
criatividade do artista). Com efeito, sabemos que alguns
dos processos psicológicos mais importantes (e.g. os
processos emocionais e cognitivos; a aprendizagem)
exprimem-se de forma sofisticada e relevante na
experiência de apreciação e de criação da arte. Neste
sentido, a psicologia da arte pode igualmente ser vista
como uma chave para o entendimento da experiência
psicológica em geral (e.g. Freeland, 2007).”
