Upcoming Events

The next Saint Mary’s Rosary Society meeting will take place on Saturday, May 13 at 1pm.

Our next Parish Food Drive will be held the weekend of April 22-23, 2017 and will be dis-tributed to our own parishioners in need.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Mon, April 24 at 7:30pm in the cafeteria.

The First Confession for second year students will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Mary’s Assumption. All students must be present at 7:00 p.m.

The May Crowning will take place on Sun-day, May 7 during the 9am and 11:30am Masses.

St. Mary’s Assumption Church is in need of catechists for our re-ligious education program. We will provide the necessary training if needed. Thank you for your sup-port!

Parish Food Drive Next Weekend

The kindly man will be blessed, for he gives of his sustenance to the poor. Proverbs 22:9

Next weekend, April 22 and 23, we will hold our monthly food collection. This invita-tion goes out to the whole parish

community. This month the food will be col-lected for our own parishioners who are in need. Your donations must be non-perishable food items.

The following items are very useful: cere-al, oatmeal, pasta and sauce, canned meats and vegetables, soups, tuna fish, white rice, beans, canned or packaged milk, peanut butter, jelly, juice and canned fruits.

PLEASE CHECK FOR EXPIRATION DATES!

La próxima reunión del Consejo Parroquial será el lunes, 24 de abril a las 7:30pm en la cafetería.

Nuestra próxima Colecta de Comida Parro-quial se llevará a cabo el fin de semana del 22 y 23 de abril y será distribuido al nuestros parroquianos en necesidad.

La Primera Confesión para los niños del se-gundo año de catecismo será el miércoles. 10 de mayo aquí en la Asunción de Santa Ma-ría. Todos los estudiantes deben de asistir a las 7:00p.m.

La Coronación de Mayo será el 7 de mayo, en las Misas de las 9am y 11:30am.

La Iglesia de la Asunción de María ne-cesita catequistas para nuestro progra-ma de educación religiosa. Estaremos dando el entrenamiento necesario. ¡Gracias por su apoyo!

COLECCIÓN DE COMIDA PARROQUIAL, PRÓXIMO FIN DE SEMANA

mentos. Esta invitación se dirige a toda la co-munidad parroquial. Este mes, la comida será recolectada para nuestros propios feligre-ses que están en necesidad. Sus donaciones deben ser alimentos no perecederos.

Los siguientes artículos son muy útiles: cereales, avena, pasta y salsa, carne y vegetales enlatadas, sopas, atún, arroz blanco, frijoles, leche enlatada o envasada, mantequilla de ca-cahuete, jalea, jugo y frutas enlatadas.

DOMINGO DE RESURRECCION El significado de la Semana Santa. La Resurrección del Señor nos abre las puertas a la vida eterna, su triunfo sobre la muerte es la victoria definitiva sobre el pecado. Este hecho hace del do-mingo de Resurrección la celebración más importante de todo el año.

Ha terminado la cuaresma, el tiempo de conversión interior y de penitencia, ha llegado el momento de conmemorar la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Cristo. Después de la entrada triunfal en Jerusalén, ahora nos toca asistir a la institución de la Euca-ristía, orar junto al Señor en el Huerto de los Olivos y acompa-ñarle por el doloroso camino que termina en la Cruz.

Durante la semana santa, las narraciones de la pasión renuevan los acontecimientos de aquellos días; los hechos dolorosos podrían mover nuestros sentimientos y hacernos olvidar que lo más im-portante es buscar aumentar nuestra fe y devoción en el Hijo de Dios.

La Liturgia dedica especial atención a esta semana, a la que también se le ha denominado “Semana Mayor” o “Semana Grande”, por la importancia que tiene para los cristianos el celebrar el misterio de la Redención de Cristo, quien por su infinita misericordia y amor al hombre, decide libremente tomar nuestro lugar y recibir el castigo merecido por nuestros pecados.

Para esta celebración, la Iglesia invita a todos los fieles al recogimiento interior, haciendo un alto en las labores cotidianas para contemplar detenidamente el misterio pascual, no con una actitud pasi-va, sino con el corazón dispuesto a volver a Dios, con el ánimo de lograr un verdadero dolor de nuestros pecados y un sincero propósito de enmienda para corresponder a todas las gracias obteni-das por Jesucristo.

Para los cristianos la semana santa no es el recuerdo de un hecho histórico cualquiera, es la contem-plación del amor de Dios que permite el sacrificio de su Hijo, el dolor de ver a Jesús crucificado, la esperanza de ver a Cristo que vuelve a la vida y el júbilo de su Resurrección.

En los inicios de la cristiandad ya se acostumbraba la visita de los santos lugares. Ante la imposibili-dad que tiene la mayoría de los fieles para hacer esta peregrinación, cobra mayor importancia la participación en la liturgia para aumentar la esperanza de salvación en Cristo resucitado.

La Resurrección del Señor nos abre las puertas a la vida eterna, su triunfo sobre la muerte es la vic-toria definitiva sobre el pecados. Este hecho hace del domingo de Resurrección la celebración más importante de todo el año litúrgico.

Aún con la asistencia a las celebraciones podemos quedarnos en lo anecdótico, sin nada que nos motive a ser más congruentes con nuestra fe. Esta unidad de vida requiere la imitación del maestro, buscar parecernos más a Él.

Para nosotros no existen cosas extraordinarias, calumnias, disgustos, problemas familiares, dificul-tades económicas y todos los contratiempos que se nos presentan, servirán para identificarnos con el sufrimiento del Señor en la pasión, sin olvidar el perdón, la paciencia, la comprensión y la gene-rosidad para con nuestros semejantes.

La muerte de Cristo nos invita a morir también, no físicamente, sino a luchar por alejar de nuestra alma la sensualidad, el egoísmo, la soberbia, la avaricia… la muerte del pecado para estar debida-mente dispuestos a la vida de la gracia.

Resucitar en Cristo es volver de las tinieblas del pecado para vivir en la gracia divina. Ahí está el sa-cramento de la penitencia, el camino para revivir y reconciliarnos con Dios. Es la dignidad de hijos de Dios que Cristo alcanzó con la Resurrección.

Así, mediante la contemplación del misterio pascual y el concretar propósitos para vivir como ver-daderos cristianos, la pasión, muerte y resurrección adquieren un sentido nuevo, profundo y tras-cendente, que nos llevará en un futuro a gozar de la presencia de Cristo resucitado por toda la eternidad.

EASTER SUNDAY

The meaning of Holy Week. The Resurrection of the Lord opens the door to eternal life, his triumph over death is the ultimate victory over sin. This fact makes the Sunday of Resurrection the most important celebration of the whole year.

Lent, the time of interior conversion and penance has ended, the time has come to commemorate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ. After the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we now have to attend the institu-tion of the Eucharist, pray with the Lord in the Garden of Olives and accompany Him on the painful road that ends at the Cross.

During Holy Week, the narratives of the passion renew the events of those days; The painful facts could move our feelings and make us forget that the most important thing is to seek to increase our faith and devotion in the Son of God.

The Liturgy pays particular attention to this week, which has also been called "Great Week," be-cause of the importance for Christians to celebrate the mystery of the Redemption of Christ, who for his infinite mercy and love of man, decided freely to take our place and receive the punishment de-served for our sins.

For this celebration, the Church invites all the faithful to interior recollection, making a halt in dai-ly work to contemplate the paschal mystery, not with a passive attitude, but with the heart willing to return to God, with the aim of achieving a true pain for our sins and a sincere purpose of amend-ment to correspond to all the graces obtained by Jesus Christ.

For Christians, Holy Week is not the memory of a historical fact, it is the contemplation of the love of God that allows the sacrifice of his Son, the pain of seeing Jesus crucified, the hope to see Christ coming back to life and the joy of his Resurrection.

In the beginnings of Christendom, the visit of the holy places was already accustomed. Given the impossibility of the majority of the faithful to make this pilgrimage, participation in the liturgy to increase the hope of salvation in the risen Christ became more important.

The Resurrection of the Lord opens the doors to eternal life, his triumph over death is the ultimate victory over sins. This fact makes the Sunday of Resurrection the most important celebration of the entire liturgical year.

Even with the attendance at the celebrations we can stay in the anecdotal, with nothing that moti-vates us to be more congruent with our faith. This unity of life requires the imitation of the teacher, seeking to be more like Him.

For us there are no extraordinary things, calumnies, dislikes, family problems, economic difficulties and all the setbacks that are presented, will serve to identify us with the suffering of the Lord in the passion, not forgetting forgiveness, patience, understanding and generosity to our fellow man.

The death of Christ invites us to die also, not physically, but to fight to remove from our soul sensu-ality, selfishness, arrogance, greed ... the death of sin to be properly disposed to the life of grace.

To resurrect in Christ is to return from the darkness of sin to live in divine grace. There is the sacra-ment of penance, the way to revive and reconcile with God. It is the dignity of children of God that Christ reached with the Resurrection.

Thus, through the contemplation of the Paschal Mystery and the concrete realization of the purpose to live as true Christians, passion, death and resurrection acquire a new, profound and transcend-ent meaning, which will lead us in the future to enjoy the presence of the risen Christ throughout eternity.
