1. INTRODUCCIÓN

El presente trabajo se titula Diccionario bilingüe del proceso de elaboración del whisky, y consiste en

una recopilación terminológica bilingüe inglés-español con equivalencias al catalán sobre el proceso de

elaboración de esta bebida espirituosa. El ámbito en el que se inserta nuestro trabajo terminológico es

“el proceso de elaboración del whisky”. Sin embargo, es difícil determinar con exactitud el ámbito

concreto en el que se ubica ya que abarca una variedad de procesos, técnicas, etc., relativos al whisky,

en los que ahondaremos posteriormente.

La elección del tema de trabajo viene motivada por nuestra experiencia personal dado que los tres

miembros del grupo realizamos una estancia Erasmus en Escocia, concretamente en Aberdeen y

Edimburgo, dos de las ciudades más importantes en lo referente a la cultura del whisky. Además,

hemos visitado varias destilerías de Escocia y en estas visitas nos percatamos de la gran cantidad de

terminología especializada que se utiliza en lo referente a los procesos y a los ingredientes. Puesto que

la terminología es un factor clave en este ámbito para entender correctamente el proceso, nos pareció

interesante la creación de este diccionario.

Respecto a las lenguas de trabajo, hemos seleccionado el inglés por la carga cultural que lleva implícita

y el español por ser nuestra segunda lengua materna. Además, vimos muy interesante añadir a estas

fichas terminológicas en inglés y español, un equivalente a nuestra primera lengua materna, el catalán,

lengua en la que los recursos acerca del whisky son muy escasos.

Esta fue la motivación principal para la elaboración de este vocabulario, y nos planteamos los

siguientes objetivos:

1. Acercar a la sociedad española la cultura del whisky, que en lugares como Escocia está muy

arraigada, mientras que en España, al estar la mayor parte de los documentos sobre estos procesos

en inglés, y al incluir términos especializados, el interés se reduce considerablemente.

2. Crear un recurso terminológico sobre este tema ya que son prácticamente inexistentes los recursos

de este tipo tales como diccionarios, glosarios, etc.

Además de estos objetivos, cabe mencionar que este recurso podría resultar de gran utilidad para

mediadores lingüísticos cuyas lenguas de trabajo sean el inglés y el español, así como traductores

especializados, lingüistas y expertos en la materia. Del mismo modo, también consideramos que podría

ser muy interesante para las propias destilerías, de cara a la actividad turística, ya que dichos recursos

terminológicos, como el diccionario que presentamos, podrían agilizar la tarea de redacción de los

folletos turísticos dirigidos a un público español, y, por tanto, resultaría de relevancia para los

trabajadores de estos lugares.

Es de rigor hacer una distinción entre dos actividades terminológicas diferentes pero que forman parte

de este trabajo. En primer lugar, nos encontramos con la terminología prescriptiva o normalizadora que

según grandes figuras como Cabré sería la que está más enfocada a la fijación de una forma de

referencia considerada adecuada, en otras palabras, la necesidad de creación de nuevos términos en un

dominio especializado y su aplicación de acuerdo con unas normas. En segundo lugar, nos

encontramos con la terminología descriptiva que es la que realizan sobre todo los traductores, puesto

que se trata de documentarse y recopilar terminología de un dominio pero sin crear nuevos términos ni

determinar el uso que se hace de ellos. En la práctica, como hemos podido comprobar por nuestro

propio pie, es imposible deslindar estos dos tipos de actividad terminológica, y, es por ello que el

enfoque de nuestro diccionario sería una mezcla de ambas actividades. Básicamente, esto se debe a que

como los recursos terminológicos en español sobre el proceso de elaboración del whisky son casi

inexistentes, hemos tenido que crear nuevos términos que cubrieran el hueco conceptual que había en

español.

Esta memoria recoge una recopilación básica de 60 entradas terminológicas en inglés y español con

equivalente al catalán acerca del proceso de elaboración del whisky, ordenadas alfabéticamente y

divididas según los subdominios relativos a esta especialidad. Nuestros registros están formados por

módulos lingüísticos cada uno de ellos compuesto por el mismo número de campos. En lo referente a la

definición de la estructura interna de los registros cabe destacar que se incluyen una serie de datos,

algunos de tipo obligatorio y otros optativos conforme al objetivo principal del diccionario.

El diseño de cada ficha electrónica se presentará con la estructura que sigue a continuación:

Con respecto a la metodología del trabajo podemos contemplar varios pasos que hemos llevado a cabo.

El primero, fue la reunión del grupo para determinar el tema acorde a los gustos e intereses del mismo.

En segundo lugar, los tres miembros del grupo realizamos las fases iniciales del trabajo, como el árbol

de campo o la elección del corpus. Una vez seleccionamos el corpus, realizamos el vaciado

terminológico con el programa Antconc en algunas de las sesiones de clase. La dinámica de este

proceso de extracción se realizó en grupo, y se basó en ir mirando la frecuencia de las unidades

terminológicas, el contexto y cotexto para determinar si eran términos especializados que incluir en el

diccionario. Después de haber seleccionado una gran cantidad de términos, eliminamos los de menor

interés, quedando un total de 60 términos, y decidimos dividirlos de acuerdo a los subdominios que

creamos en el proceso de creación del árbol de campo para posteriormente pasar a crear las fichas

terminológicas con el programa Multiterm. En otras palabras, dividimos los términos atendiendo al

subdominio (aunque algunos miembros han realizado también algunas fichas de un subdominio

diferente al que se especifica) y el trabajo quedó repartido de la siguiente manera:

Una vez realizadas las fichas, cada miembro revisó las fichas de otro, de tal forma que todas quedaron

revisadas al menos una vez. Finalmente, todos los miembros del grupo redactamos el trabajo y

revisamos de forma general el mismo y realizamos las correcciones pertinentes.

2. FUENTES DE REFERENCIA

El vocabulario se ha construido a partir del vaciado de textos referentes al ámbito del proceso de

elaboración del whisky. En este punto queremos mencionar que, dado que es un área temática acerca

de la que no existe apenas información de calidad (sobre todo en español) hemos optado por

seleccionar únicamente cinco textos en inglés, muy específicos, de los que nos hemos centrado

especialmente en dos (E01 y E02). Las fuentes textuales que han constituido el corpus de vaciado del

proceso de elaboración del whisky, denominado CPEW, se presentan a continuación divididas por

lengua y en él se incluye el nombre que le hemos otorgado a cada fichero electrónico y el título del

texto:

A continuación presentamos una serie de recursos electrónicos (en inglés y en español) que nos han

sido de gran utilidad en el desarrollo del trabajo. Llegados a este punto queremos recalcar que vista la

escasez de recursos sobre el proceso de elaboración del whisky en español, nos hemos visto obligados

a buscar en páginas web como blogs o monografías que, aunque son menos especializadas, el

contenido ha sido de bastante relevancia para poder documentarnos, encontrar un equivalente,

definición y contextos.

Llegados a este punto, explicaremos unos códigos que serán de gran utilidad para albergar las

referencias de la definición, es decir, que aparecerán en el campo fuente de la definición:

En cuanto al primer código “adapt” significa que se trata una adaptación de una fuente concreta, por

ejemplo “adapt.E01” significará que la definición se ha adaptado a partir de la información contenida

grupo: IrM (Irene Miró Jiménez), SeG (Sergio Gandia Silvestre) y SaB (Sara Beneito Satorres) y se

“trad,IrM/trad.SeG/trad.SaB” indica que la definición en la lengua de llegada es una traducción de la

existente en la lengua de partida (existen traducciones inglés-español y español-inglés) elaborada por el

terminólogo encargado de la ficha en cuestión.

3. INDICACIONES SOBRE EL USO DEL DICCIONARIO

3.1 ORDEN EXTERNO DE LAS ENTRADAS

El presente diccionario se ordena alfabéticamente en ambas direcciones (español-inglés con

equivalencia al catalán, inglés-español con equivalencia al catalán). En cada ficha podemos encontrar

un campo común y un campo específico. En el campo común para ambos idiomas, inglés y español,

encontraremos el estado de la ficha (borrador-en revisión-definitivo), el dominio al que pertenece el

término, el terminólogo y la imagen, que será opcional.

3.2 ORDEN INTERNO DE LAS ENTRADAS

Respecto al orden interno de cada entrada, podemos encontrar: término (aparece en negrita junto con su

marca de idioma), subdominio, categoría gramatical, definición, fuente de la definición, contexto y

fuente del contexto.

A continuación detallamos el primer campo de la estructura interna de las fichas terminológicas, el

3.2.2 Categoría gramatical

Respecto a la categoría gramatical de cada término, la presentamos a continuación en inglés y en

español ya que existen diferencias gramaticales entre las dos. En las fichas terminológicas utilizaremos

las abreviaturas, por lo tanto, aquí disponemos la leyenda que se debe seguir para interpretarlas.

3.3.3 Definición

En este campo encontraremos la definición del término en versión bilingüe.

3.3.4 Fuente de la definición

En este campo se presenta la fuente de la definición del término. Dado que hay diversas situaciones (el

terminólogo crea la definición, la adapta, la toma de un diccionario) hemos creado unas etiquetas que

explicamos con detalle en el final de apartado “fuentes de referencia”.

3.3.5 Contexto

En este campo aparece el término contextualizado dentro del corpus relativo a cada lengua (inglés y

español). En los casos en que se ha seleccionado el contexto de fuentes ajenas al corpus, se ha indicado

expresamente el enlace de donde se ha obtenido.

3.3.6 Fuente del contexto

En cuanto a este campo, para facilitar la tarea de consulta, hemos añadido un código para cada texto

que hemos utilizado, y que conforma el corpus de cada lengua. Hemos utilizado el código “E” para los

textos en inglés, y el “S” para los textos en español. Ambos van seguidos de un número, siguiendo el

orden secuencial (1, 2, 3…) de tal modo que queda “E01” o “S01” para el primer texto consultado. En

el caso de que se consulte un documento o página que no se encuentra en las fuentes de referencia de

forma explícita, hemos añadido el enlace a dicho recurso.

3.3.7. Referencias cruzadas

En el caso de nuestro diccionario, cabe comentar que los términos están altamente relacionados entre sí

por lo que, hemos considerado muy útil crear este apartado y así, facilitar la comprensión de las

unidades terminológicas. Esto permitirá acceder directamente a otra ficha, pinchando en un término,

desde la ficha que estamos consultando.

4 ÁRBOL DE CAMPO

En este apartado presentamos el árbol de campo del proceso de elaboración del whisky. Dicho árbol

incluye todos los términos que hemos incluido en las fichas y se presenta en formato bilingüe (inglés y

español). El objeto del mismo es mostrar de una forma clara y precisa las ramificaciones que

encontramos en el campo que hemos trabajado y reflejar de forma secuencial y ordenada los distintos
