Estamos chegando ao final do se-mestre. Em nome de toda a equipe Talken, agradeço aos alunos e pais pela confiança depositada na escola e reafirmo o compromisso da ma-nutenção de todo o sistema de en-sino, corpo docente, coordenação e direção.

E depois de 27 anos de trabalho, queremos mais: temos um novo site

e uma nova página no facebook, verdadeiramente interativos, o in-formativo Keep Talken, novos clubs, colônia de férias, programa interna-cional na Stetson University e o in-tensivo de verão (dezembro, janeiro e fevereiro) com bastante procura. Em 2016, let’s keep Talken!

Nossa sede em Joinville foi invadi-da por deliciosos aromas e sabores em setembro e outubro, durante as últimas edições do “Cooking club”. Supervisionados pelas professo-ras Claudia di Napoli, Aline Martins e Tita Rosa, os alunos prepararam lanches para eles mesmos, se diver-tiram e praticaram o inglês.

As turmas fizeram – e depois prova-ram - smoothies de morango e ba-nana, peanut butter jelly sandwich, hamburguer com barbecue sauce e American flag desert.

Este é mais um dos “extra clubs” que oferecemos além do tradicional “English Club”, espaço destinado a alunos que queiram revisar ou repor parte do conteúdo dado em sala.

Veja ao lado outras opções de “Clubs” ofertados às sextas-feiras durante o semestre, todos acom-panhados por professores experien-tes e oferecidos em sedes variadas. Neles, os alunos podem aprimorar o contato com a língua inglesa, além do horário normal de aula, sem cus-to adicional:

Rosely Sayão, psicóloga e consultora educacional, tem mais de 30 anos de experiência em clínica, supervisão e docência. Sayão presta consultoria em empresas e escolas, dissertando sobre cidadania e sobre educação de crianças e de adolescentes.

Na Talken a conversa foi sobre o cenário atual em que o mundo virtual atrai mais que o real, a pressa em aprender é uma constante e o significado de respeito ao próximo enfraqueceu. O relacionamen-to entre alunos e professores na sala de aula tem significativo impacto no de-senvolvimento de um saudável ambi-

ente educacional. “Os professores são os condutores da caminhada do aluno”, afirmou a psicóloga Rosely Sayão em treinamento aos professores das nossas escolas de Curitiba e Joinville.

E foram estes desafios da caminhada que os participantes trouxeram para o bate papo com a especialista em educação. “Um dos nossos princípios como instituição de ensino é investir no treinamento dos professores e no encontro com a Rosely foi possível fa-lar francamente sobre o que vivemos em sala de aula atualmente”, afirma o diretor Magdal Frigotto.

O estudante curitibano de Engenharia Mecânica Ber-nardo ayres Fabienski da silva tem 21 anos e des-de setembro está morando na Tianjin University, em Tianjin, na China. Ele estudou inglês na sede do Cris-to Rei, em Curitiba, por cinco anos, onde fez todo o seu curso antes de viajar. Atualmente estuda chinês, preparando-se para, ingressar na Dalian University of Technology no ano que vem. De Tianjin, Bernardo nos deu esta entrevista:

Why did you choose to go to China?Since I was little I wondered how the other countries were, specially China. I always liked to watch things related to this country. Their culture is very old and rich in aspects like social and economical develop-ment. I see Chinese as a language of the future. And not just that, but also that this language can express many things with more detail. Some words are so specific, that sometimes they can’t really be trans-lated literally.

What advantages do you have living there com-pared to other countries you could have chosen?The idea came after I thought about how the busi-ness world is now. I saw that getting a job and work-ing was not simple. So when I applied for living out-side, I saw a chance of improving in my studies and also knowing other people’s culture. And since I had the option for China, I said to myself ‘go!’.

How do Chinese see Brazilians?Every time a Chinese asks me where I am from, and they hear the word Brazil, they immediately say Soc-cer! But then I tell them I can’t play soccer, and they act like ‘no way!, you are Brazilian, how come you can’t play soccer?’ But they see Brazilians as kind, warm, and hearted people, which I think is nice.

Have you experienced any kind of exotic foods?Regarding food, it’s an awesome country for dishes, so many varieties and flavors. I haven’t tasted many different kinds of food yet, and yes there are insects to sell here. But in the city I am in, it is not easy to find this kind of strange foods.

What kind of recommendation can you give those who want to study outside Brazil?For the ones who want to go abroad to study, I just have some words: Go if you have a chance, don’t miss this chance, study hard, make friends. You will miss your family, but they will be waiting for you to come back. In other countries the ways to live are differ-ent, so always check how it is and how they do things there, so you will be less likely to have misunderstand-ings. You will be a foreigner so follow every rule and respect everyone, with this and your hard study you will surely succeed!

marco antonio Floriani Burda está realizando dois sonhos: jogar futebol e viver nos Estados Unidos. Aos 16 anos, este curitibano está morando e estudando na Montverde Academy, na Flórida, na cidade de Mont-verde, que fica a 40 quilômetros de Orlando. Antes de viajar, Marco estudou a língua inglesa por seis anos na nossa sede do Jardim Botânico, em Curitiba.

Has the study of english in Brazil helped you get here?Yes, the study of English helped me to get here. I only came to the US on a trip with the Santa Maria soccer team for a tournament in Orlando, the Disney Cup, because I wanted not only to play soccer but also to practice what I had learned for six years in the English school. In this trip we made a test in this Montverde Academy that I am now, and after two days of soccer trials they offered me the opportunity to stay here for one year. I also had to talk in English with the coaches and with the school director, not only personally but also by email. Now the English helps me a lot to study and practice soccer- all the classes, books and train-ings are in English and for me to get accustomed was really easy.

What do you miss about Brazil?What I really miss in Brazil are mainly my family and my friends. I also miss some classes and teachers – it was so much fun to be with my friends and also my indoor soccer team and all the friendly games on weekends that I liked to attend.

talk about your future plans.I plan to study and play here for one year and after that go back to Brazil. I am looking at this opportu-nity that I had as a chance to experiment new things and live a new adventure. But if a different opportuni-ty arises here, like a college scholarship for example, than, if I could, I am sure that I would stay here for more time.

What tip can you give those who are interested in studying in the usa?The best tip that I can give is to know how to speak English, believe that you can study here, not only through sports but also through good grades, be sure and always think if this is what you really want. Because when you are here, you can’t regret or think that you shouldn’t be here. You just have to enjoy and take all the opportunities that you can get.

Um grupo de 27 funcionários do HSBC Global Technol-ogy, participantes do programa de desenvolvimento One ID da empresa, frequentou aulas de inglês básico de junho a setembro deste ano na Talken. O One ID integra pessoas com deficiência ou acima de 40 anos que passaram pelo teste seletivo da companhia e in-gressaram em um amplo programa de desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional. Além do aperfeiçoamento em inglês, esses profissionais estão sendo treinados em lógica de programação, procedimentos operacionais, banco de dados, tecnologia de desenvolvimento, ge-

renciamento de tempo, dar e receber feedback, geren-ciamento de conflitos e técnicas de apresentação efi-caz de projetos. “Selecionamos para o curso na Talken os funcionários que não tiveram a oportunidade de fazer curso de inglês antes e estamos satisfeitos com o resultado”, explica Wellington Virgovino, analista de recursos humanos do HSBC. “Entendo que desenvolver pessoas tecnicamente nos desenvolve também como seres humanos e considero de grande valor estarmos nos atualizando e revendo nossa própria história”, complementa.

Os testes de proficiência de idiomas estrangeiros são uma das exigências para iniciar cursos de graduação no exterior, concorrer a bolsas de intercâmbio, ou ingressar em empresas multinacionais. As provas testam as habili-dades de leitura, escrita, compreensão e expressão oral e servem para comprovar o nível de conhecimento do aluno na língua.

“Poucas pessoas sabem, mas muitos certificados emiti-dos por cursos de inglês brasileiros não são reconhe-cidos em outros países”, alerta Regina Ramalho, co-ordenadora educacional da Talken English School. “E o aluno só percebe a importância do seu certificado

quando vai participar de algum tipo de seleção onde o inglês é exigido”, complementa.

Na Talken English School utiliza-se o mais importante e respeitado teste internacional, o TOEFL. Para receber o diploma de conclusão, é preciso atingir o mínimo de 500 pontos no TOEFL ITP (Institucional Testing Pro-gram). “A média dos alunos que terminam o curso é de 570 pontos, bem acima do que exigimos”, comemora a coordenadora. “É esse teste que dá credibilidade ao nosso certificado. Garantimos em contrato esse resul-tado mínimo e trabalhamos para que o aluno tenha um escore ainda melhor que esse”, finaliza Ramalho.

What I like to do when I’m not teaching is to play American football and read. Hello, my name is adriane Heinisch, but you can call me Adri. I am a teacher at the Cristo Rei Talken English School in Curitiba. I’ve been an English teacher for 20 years and I love my job. What I like to do when I’m not teaching is riding my bike. I am also an athlete and try to compete as much as I can, I love my sport. My hobby is making jewelry. I do that to relax and I discovered that I have this creative side because of my mother. I have 2 pet dogs named Kiara and Aruk; they are very big and fun. My life is amazing because I have a great family; my kids and my husband really support me.

Hello, my name is rodrigo Brand, but you can call me Rod. I am a teacher at the Água Verde Talken English School in Curitiba. I have been an English teacher for almost 10 years. I was a student here before and right after I graduated I started teaching. I lived in New Zea-land twice: in 2005 and again in 2007. What I like to do when I’m not teaching is watching sports and TV series. I don’t have a hobby, but I do like CrossFit. I also have a dog, his name is Bóris. He’s five years old and he’s an English Bulldog.

Sabe aquelas histórias em que a gente custa a acreditar? Pois bem: o relato a seguir conta como o pro-fessor Daniel Martini Florim, da sede Água Verde, e a professora Raquel Martini Florim, da sede Cristo Rei, se conheceram. A história dá um filme!

“I went to New York City in the end of 2012 to take a Cambridge certifi-cation called Celta, which would al-low me to teach in most ESL (English as a Second Lan-guage) schools around the world. I had been a teacher at Talken for about three years back then, and I had the itch to go teach somewhere else, and meet new people and a new culture. It was also my first time in New York. I was obviously blown away by the city itself, and my first two weeks there were very intense. New York has a multicultural beating heart that is impossible not to fall in love with when you like to travel and meet people as much as I do.

But then the new year came, and I had to start the course in the beginning of January. That’s when I met a very in-teresting bunch of people. Some of them were teachers and others wanted to start teaching around the globe somewhere. One of them turned out to be this girl, who spoke Portuguese, loved jazz, books and traveling. Once we started talking, we hit it off. It was as if we had known each other for ages. Sometimes after class a group of people would go out for drinks, or to a park or museum, and we’d spend hours together. But she and I seemed to

be spending more time together than the rest of them.

We started having these heart-to-heart conversations about life, and the world, and art. I am very intense, and simply can’t stay away from this kind of talk. Neither could she. So, as you would expect, we fell in love pret-ty quickly...

But my time in the States was running out, and then on my last day there she drove me to the airport. I didn’t know what was going to happen, and if we’d ever see each other again, so I asked her to give me something to remember her by. She had nothing that she could part ways with, so I suggested that she give me a button from her coat. She always wore the same purple coat, and I really liked it, simply because it made me think of her. So she gave me the button, which I started wearing on a string around my neck as soon as I got to Brazil.

We skyped for months, and in May 11, 2013, she came to Curitiba, got a job as a teacher at Talken Cristo Rei, where she still is, and we got married the following year, on March 3. I guess you never know what life has in store for you!”
