Les animamos a enviar contribuciones originales a la Revista Española deFilosofía Medieval, vol. 24 (2017), que se publicará en diciembre de 2017.La Revista Española de Filosofía Medieval es una publicación académicaanual open-access, indexada y sometida a revisión por pares. La Revista es elórgano oficial de la Sociedad de Filosofía Medieval, impresa y distribuida por elServicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Zaragoza y La universidad deCórdoba (en su formato OJS).

La Revista se publica ininterrumpidamente desde 1993. Contribuye a lapublicación de artículos científicos escritos en español, inglés, francés, alemán,italiano y portugués. Los artículos han de ser originales y relacionados en elpensamiento y transmisión de saberes (de la Edad Media a los inicios de laModernidad), con especial énfasis en textos y autores de la Península Ibérica –también se admite trabajos relacionados con la tradición intelectual de laAntigüedad Tardía. La extensión de las contribuciones ha de estar entre las5,000 y 25,000 palabras. La fecha límite para la recepción de artículos es el 1 dejulio de 2017. Las contribuciones serán evaluadas mediante un proceso de“revisión por pares”.

The 2017 annual fall meeting of the “Aquinas and the Arabs Project” will takeplace at the University of Notre Dame. We invite submissions of paperproposals on topics relating to the project interests, broadly construed as figuresand themes whose study contributes to a better understanding of howphilosophical concepts developed in an Islamic and Jewish milieu helped shapeLatin Scholasticism. Papers may consider questions of transmission / influence;or compare thinkers from different traditions; or deal with just one tradition /thinker on a philosophical topic that is nonetheless of interest in multipletraditions. In general, papers should be congenial for an audience consisting ofspecialists in different areas of Islamic, Jewish, and Latin medieval philosophy. Please send a title and proposal of roughly 300-500 words to the co-organizers,Therese Scarpelli Cory, tcory@nd.edu and Francisco RomeroCarrasquillo, fromero@up.edu.mx. About the “Aquinas and ‘the Arabs’ Project.” The goal of the project is topromote understanding and insight into philosophical and theological issuesprominent in the Medieval period in the Abrahamic traditions in Arabic, Hebrewand Latin writings, issues which continue to inform philosophical andtheological thought today in important ways. The major focus of the Project is onissues in the thought of Aquinas which elucidate the depth of his engagementwith the Arabic and Jewish traditions and the positive and valuable influence ofthose traditions on his thought and that of Christian thinkers of the high middleages in Europe. The Project, however, is not limited to Aquinas but rather seeksto promote the understanding of philosophical thought in all three Abrahamictraditions in themselves as well as in their interactions and influences. To thatend the Project encourages work in all three traditions and is particularlyinterested in influences, parallel developments and also unique and valuablephilosophical and theological insights and contributions to the history ofphilosophy.

Les études environnementales ont connu dans la dernière décennie, unecroissance qui les situe aujourd’hui au cœur de nombreux débats en sciences

croissance qui les situe aujourd’hui au cœur de nombreux débats en sciencessociales : l’hypothèse de l’entrée de la terre dans une nouvelle ère géologique –l’Anthropocène – en raison du rôle joué par l’humanité comme force écologiqueinédite est sans doute celle qui suscite le plus de discussions. Le défi posé parune telle proposition est celui de trouver un cadre nouveau dans lequel penserensemble l’évolution des sociétés et des matérialités : il engage de nouvellesformes d’écriture de l’histoire, qui invitent à dépasser la rupture entre « histoirenaturelle » et « histoire humaine », que la modernité occidentale auraitconsommée. Comment entendre aujourd’hui cet appel à renouveler les manièresde faire et d’écrire l’histoire ? De quel type de dispositifs intellectuels situés dansle temps « l’histoire naturelle » est-elle née, sur quels terrains, à partir de quellessources et pour répondre à quelles questions ? Comment s’est engagé, depuiscette matrice, le grand partage entre nature et culture ? Dans quelle mesurel’histoire environnementale permet-elle de le dépasser ? Comment prend-elle encompte la diversité des archives nécessaire à ses ambitions et comment peut-ellemettre en œuvre des formes d’interdisciplinarité avec les sciences de la nature etde la terre ?

L’atelier doctoral est l’occasion de reconsidérer la pluralité des modes dedéveloppement des études environnementales, qui se sont déployées à partird’ancrage disciplinaires variés (environmental history, géohistoire, sciencestudies, géographie historique, political ecology, sociologie, archéologieenvironnementale, anthropologie…). Il entend ainsi mettre en perspective etcréer des espaces de dialogue entre des traditions historiographiques différentesqui se sont souvent ignorées. Il permettra notamment d’éclairer, à l’échelleeuropéenne, le rôle précurseur joué par l’Italie qui, dès la fin des années 1980,lisait les propositions de l’histoire environnementaliste venant des États-Unis endéveloppant un point de vue critique – notamment en termes de production etd’usage des sources – et développait un dialogue original avec l’ecologicalhistory britannique et la géographie historique.

Following substantial investment in the area of Byzantine Studies at theUniversity of Notre Dame, including the acquisition of the Milton V. AnastosLibrary of Byzantine Civilization and generous support from the StavrosNiarchos Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the National Endowment forthe Humanities, the Medieval Institute at the University of Notre Dame isdelighted to invite applicants for a nine-month Postdoctoral Fellowship inByzantine Studies. This fellowship is designed for junior scholars with acompleted doctorate whose research deals with some aspect of the Byzantineworld. The fellow is expected to pursue promising research towards scholarlypublication and/or the development of new subject areas. This Fellowship isopen to qualified applicants in all fields and sub-disciplines of ByzantineStudies, such as history (including its auxiliary disciplines), archaeology, art

The fellowship holder willpursue research in residence at the University of Notre Dame’s famed MedievalInstitute during the 2017-18 academic year.

The intent of this Fellowship is to enable its holder to do innovative researchdrawing on the rich resources held in the Milton V. Anastos Collection, theMedieval Institute, and the Hesburgh Library more broadly. This may includethe completion of book manuscripts and articles, work on text editions, or thedevelopment of new trajectories of research in one of the aforementioned fields.The Fellowship carries no teaching responsibilities, but the fellow will have theopportunity to participate in the multidisciplinary activities of Notre Damefaculty related to Byzantium, Eastern Christianity, and the history of the Levant.The Fellow will be provided with a private workspace in the Medieval Institute,enjoy full library and computer privileges, and have access to all the Institute’sresearch tools.

In addition, towards the conclusion of the fellowship period the fellow’s workwill be at the center of a workshop organized within the framework of theByzantine Studies Seminar. Senior scholars, chosen in cooperation with theMedieval Institute, will be invited for this event treating the fellow’s subjectmatter. The senior scholars will discuss draft versions of the fellow’s bookmanuscript or articles or discuss the further development of ongoing researchprojects.

Eligibility: Byzantine Studies fellows must hold a Ph.D. from an internationallyrecognized institution. The Ph.D. must be in hand by the beginning of thefellowship term.

Salary: $36,000 plus benefits

Start date: August 16, 2017
